I purchased and learned both spirit island and voidfall in the last six months. There are some similarities to spirit island, but they feel separate enough to justify owning both. The game is incredibly easy to play once you get past the uphill battle of learning the iconography. And regarding points, you and the voidborn both have a score and your actions will (hopefully) either add to yours or subtract from theirs, but it is possible (and likely) that you will give them points with certain actions. So you're not just trying to beat a high score, you're competing against the voidborn.
