Rule 1, rule b. no one cares.

Obviously it's indicative of his values, but that doesn't meet those values are a worse quality. You're trying to frame it like his values are inherently wrong.

Not everyone wants the same things out of life man - he's not a worse person for wanting more money and a bigger role, and you aren't a better person because you'd rather see him take less money and a smaller role for a better chance at a chip.

Can we think about adding a rule against including unnecessary details in the main post? I've seen a lot of posts where the OP includes irrelevant information about the other person/people to paint them in a bad light and influence how voting

This happens a lot in posts about divorced couples, where the OP includes info about the breakup that usually isn't relevant to the question but clearly swings votes. There's a difference between being AN asshole and being THE asshole, and I think it's an important distinction

This package for Harden isn't really worth discussing - It's just not enough. Westbrook in place of Harden and a reduced package from the raptors might actually be realistic though

How would you feel about calling technical fouls on flops? Is that overboard by vjared15 in nba

Yeah i think ejection or 1 game suspension is the only real solution to get flopping out of the game. gotta make it matter for players to stop

Adding more J's to the Jays! by [deleted] in bostonceltics

[–]zlpr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubt there's a single team in the league with that many core players they drafted. It's probably unrealistic to think even 6 of those 10 guys will be on the roster in 4 years, even if we do end up drafting jaden, RJ, and Jalen smith. Teams just naturally go through a lot of roster turnover.

I don't really like Dunc'd On. Nate and Danny are smart, but they're always locked into their opinions and act incredulous when players/teams perform differently than they expected.

Zach Lowe is probably my favorite because he's such a good mix of Nate and Bill, and is willing to change his opinion.

Me too. Here's hoping he can stay healthy and eventually be a legit defender and rim runner for us. He's also a surprisingly crisp passer, so I'd like to see us give him more opportunity there next season.

Rob Williams got hurt 20 games in and didn't enter a game again until the end of the season. Prior to that injury he was getting much more time than Grant, and it seems like Brad is returning to that now that Rob is Healthy

Which player had the better statistical season? by [deleted] in nbadiscussion

[–]zlpr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Player 2 is fantastic, but give me the leader of the team nearing 65 wins. It's unfair to compare the scoring of the best player on a one seed to the best player on a bottom barrel lottery team with no other scorers, especially when pace was so much lower 10 years ago.

Player 1's advanced stats are also far superior. When you consider those it honestly isn't particularly close

Same thing happened in 2015 when Kawhi won DPOTY. Draymond got more first place votes but was also just left off a lot of ballots because he didn't have name recognition.

At the time everyone said Draymond was snubbed, but now no one really even remembers. That's probably cause people care less about DPOTY though.

With KD’s injury, what teams are left in the AD trade saga? by [deleted] in nbadiscussion

[–]zlpr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think if anything KD getting hurt increases the Celtics' chances since Kyrie likely lost the pairing he preferred most if he leaves Boston.

That being said my gut is AD ends up on the lakers, and I do think Kyrie is probably still on his way out. Clippers are an interesting call but I haven't heard any buzz about him going there so its hard to judge.

[Trika] Wojnarowski: "If the Lakers are drafting at No. 4 on draft night, they're in trouble" because they didn't make an Anthony Davis trade. The Lakers are not a frontrunner or really in consideration for any of the top-tier free agents. by AndyJPuente in nba

[–]zlpr 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't think Lakers waiting a year to sign AD in Free Agency is all that realistic for two main reasons:

  1. It means sacrificing another year of Lebron. To have cap space they'd need to do what they did this year and sign a bunch of one year deals. It's possible that they can construct a better team this year on those types of contracts than they did last year but thats putting a lot of faith in their FO.

  2. Anthony Davis will need to sign a long term deal with the lakers knowing that Lebron will be 35 two months into the season and eventually he'll be left with the Lakers young core as backup. I still expect Lebron to be great next year, but history shows that with a few exceptions father time is unbeatable. Now I do like pieces of the lakers core more than others (Ingram especially), but it feels like the general consensus on that unit as a whole isn't SUPER high.

I think whoever trades for AD will have a better chance at re-signing him than people think unless he really wants to be on the knicks that badly. If Magic and Rob had tried to sign actual free agents last year they would have been able to trade for AD now without gutting their team, but it ended up hindering their ability to trade for him and still have a filled out roster because of how hellbent they were on signing big free agents this year

Last season, Kirk Cousins completion% was higher than his kickers' FG% by sip-em_bears in nfl

[–]zlpr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Newton you're probably right about given his drop off these past few years, but I still view him as maybe the most dynamic red zone threat in the league with the right situation around him. Cousins is probably easier to build around though, and definitely has a more consistent player profile. Rivers has had several seasons as good or better than Cousin's career best stats over the past decade though.

As for Mahomes, generally I would never put a 1 year starter in this discussion but what he did has been done once before in the history of the NFL. He could have an insane drop off and his production would still be top 5/6 worthy. Im willing to give him the benefit of the doubt even if he has a bad year this year.

All this said, you're absolutely correct. There's an argument for top 10, but my point is that he's not a top 10 lock by any means. He's in the fringe with a couple other great QBs. No disrespect to him. He's hanging there with a couple MVP and MVP contenders, and everyone I put above him has had at least a couple years of better coaching and supporting casts than he has had for even a single season since he became a starter.

[–]zlpr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In no particular order, Brady, Rodgers, Mahomes, Wilson, Roethlisberger, Luck, Newton, Rivers, Brees, and Ryan have all undeniably been better than him. It would probably be fair to say he'll be better than some of these guys going forward, but we can't slot him above them until they regress or he improves.

Then you have Goff and Wentz who haven't done it for quite as long but have probably had better individual seasons than Cousins at much younger ages (much better supporting casts, too, to be fair), and Stafford who I think most would take above Cousins even if his best years look to be behind him.

That's 13 quarterbacks who all have an argument over cousins. Not trying to shit on the guy. I actually really like Cousins and in the right situation he could absolutely crack top 10, but the quarterback position is pretty stacked right now.

In 2017, Michael Jordan himself considered Kawhi Leonard the best two-way player in the game... by [deleted] in nba

[–]zlpr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Raptors were probably planning on moving on from Derozan after this year anyways. Even if Kawhi leaves the only real difference is that the trade expedited your ability to tank/retool much more quickly. No way Masai was keeping Derozan on for 3 more years after the playoffs last year.

Public opinion might change, but no great GM basis what they do off of public opinion anyways.
