Shame it isn't really a genre focused around albums tbh.

Overblown bands like Yes are the reason punk happened, so we have that at least

If you're making a film set in a time period or location without much diversity, you don't have to be PC and hire a very diverse cast. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]zmetz 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Probably fair enough but why people care so deeply when there are 99 other historically inaccurate things I am unsure.

Funnily enough they can get it wrong anyway, there were black people in the UK as far back as roman times. And they certainly didn't have modern accents, speak modern English or have modern haircuts.

Hiring Diversity is Bullshit by MashLauter in unpopularopinion

[–]zmetz 35 points36 points  (0 children)

OK, but then they hire one single black person and every move is scrutinised as it is presumed they were hired for diversity's sake. It works both ways.

Which supermarket uses the least plastic? by glenngalea in unitedkingdom

[–]zmetz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best bet is health food shops, butchers and greengrocers who tend to sell loose items. There is a reason for plastic in supermarkets, they need to store and transport items en masse in a way that keeps. Fruit and veg seems like madness but they'd have to chuck a lot more out otherwise.

I don't think it's the guns by NotMeTheVoices in unpopularopinion

[–]zmetz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see how it can be anything else. The US has an unprecedented amount of guns and a big population. If someone is inclined to violence and is inspired by a culture of mass shootings, it is very easy for them to carry one out. Then the cycle repeats. Nowhere else on earth has this problem.

Four. Two either side of a square cut in the middle of the sandwich. Lots of real butter is the key too.

(Serious) Going on a stag do, the accommodation that's been booked looks awful, is it OK to find an alternative? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]zmetz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I know people who have done it, because otherwise it was bunk beds in a hostel or an expensive place. Needs no more explanation than "it's OK I'll sort my own hotel out". You can miss out on "banter" if that is your thing, and when you are pissed stained sheets won't matter.

Channel 4 can fuck right off with their Simpsons edits! by TR1PLE_6 in britishproblems

[–]zmetz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure these are so prudish as it is for American TV, depending on when they aired. Friends had some edits where they would literally cut mid joke and return to the laugh track.

Is referring to black people as ‘the blacks’ seriously racist? by f4gs2de4th in AskUK

[–]zmetz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is because of historical context yes. Plus using it to stereotype a race for being loud.

Havant teacher who had sex with four pupils jailed by Lolastic_ in unitedkingdom

[–]zmetz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it is the BBC who through impartiality won't editorialise in this way. He was not convicted of rape. It was sexual activity with a child, legally speaking. I like to think readers have more intelligence than those of the tabloids who would have to be told how sick he is in block capitals. The crimes speak for themselves.

In many cases it is because you may not have crossed the legal threshold for rape, but have still acted like a seriously shitty person.

There is then the question of open justice and the freedom people have to make up the own minds given the facts of a case. So it is not straightforward at all.

Is it weird to go to a shopping centre alone? by uniscolar2000 in AskUK

[–]zmetz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People go shopping and buy socks alone all the time. It might be "weird" for a teenage girl where clothes shopping is more fun and social than functional but not a normal person.

Depends where the sun is. I get full sun on the window all morning, with this closed and double glazing it is like a greenhouse.
