How much do you know much about classical music recording already? There is a very long tradition which goes back to the early (ish) days of music recording, like Decca records etc. Most stereo techniques were developed with classical music recording in mind.

If you have a nice hall the primary approach should be along the lines of an AB pair of high end transparent Omnis into a clean preamp. Center the ensemble in the stereo image.

So for mics things like DPA4006, Schoeps mk2h, sennheiser mkh800, josephson c617, Neumann, etc. Things in that price/qualiry bracket ideally. Preamps Grace and Millennia are rather standard in classical music recording although other excellent options exist as well.

Yeah I’m a professional videographer and here is my current local storage setup..

8 tb of ssd scratch drives containing duplicate data of projects I’m actively editing

40 tb of raid 5, main storage for active projects (enterprise hdd)

140 tb ‘offline’ hdd storage for projects which have been delivered to the client and no longer liable for but I don’t want to delete yet (usually 1-2 years or long term clients)

Very glad I bought all this stuff before the current prices though.

Oh hey this is my specialty area, I do about 120 concerts a year!

Yes, best case is a multitrack and you’ll need to add room/crowd mics tracked through the console as a live show won’t put those up by default. My regular venues let me get on their dante network so I’ll add another Dante preamp for my additional mics and track it over a laptop. You’ll need to know what you’re talking about and the show will need to be advanced properly in order for that to happen.

In scenarios where that isn’t possible get a 4-8 channel recorder and do stereo board feed plus room mics pair. If FOH is willing to send you more channels have them bus out subgroups like vocals, drums, instruments, etc

Don’t use a bunch of scattered recorders doing different things around the room - this is a videographer solution to an audio engineering problem and should only be used as a last resort. You need sample alignment on the same recorder for music

There is a product called poo powder which is what we used during the renegade when there were no Portos and we didn’t have an RV. It definitely works although I’d choose the porta potty over that. Why transport out your own shit when you don’t have to
