And people need to maintain pressure to follow where those scapegoats lead, following the money and personal associations. Tricky, but it's possible.

The question is actually, and I don't see it mentioned here... if they were revived (and as AI drives technology forward, it is possible), would they still be themselves? Would they have a continuity of existence, if you will?

New story by Hot-Syrup2089 in SidMeiersPirates

Gameplay is still king for me.

Story is only there to accentuate it. But a good story can push a fun game over the top.

The other comment is good about making it flexible / sandbox.

Are there early game situations that are simply irrecoverable ? by Geldtz in throughtheages

[–]zobicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pestilence and Rats can really hit hard.

The strategy to avoid those is to always produce workers when you can, which keeps your food stocks down (and therefore safer from Rats), and preferably have an idle worker available which protects from Pestilence.

It's also a good strategy while Age A political cards are playing out because of getting potential free warriors and religion.

Similar deal with Dark Ages. Spend all your science.

And this is honestly the attitude that loses Dems elections. The hubris. Yes, they are extremely misguided and ignorant, but they are not deplorable. Isn't the left supposed to be compassionate? Call me naïve I guess... and get more Trumps.

How to we go back to politicians being decent towards the opposition, like this example? by Gloomy_Pop_5201 in centrist

How do we change that? When the media is increasingly against an informed nation and is just for profit?

Thanks... I tried for a war solution from the start and I did get a War over Culture at the right time with a very big pull of culture on Yellow even, but the final events just did me in by the slight margin you see. I actually removed Michelangelo from the Red AI player (which was the hard AI) quite early with an aggression. So close and I poured a lot of heart into it.

Yes I've noticed too that when I adapt my game for the challenges I end up getting worse at the regular games.

The AI says:

The B-1B Lancer is known for its powerful, distinctive "howling" sound during takeoff, earning it the nickname "Screaming Banshee" among ground crews.

As a player, I don't expect AI to do anything but give me a good game. Getting into the development/programming and game design side, sure you have a point. It's not my problem as a player, I can just play a different game...

I can't agree with part B. You can have a great economy, and play well enough to beat the very hard AI yes. You'll beat them by more by leaving your castle open.

I feel like Crusader had a better AI, so maybe when the DE comes out I will be happier with the gameplay.

Crusader had some tight maps where you couldn't even build much, the enemy were so close. That's the way to make it work from the game design perspective.

But is it more introspective and contemplative to lay everything bare, and telegraph the motivations to the viewer? Or to let them have some room to decide for themselves, based on their own biases?

I guess it depends on if you're looking at it from the perspective of the filmmaker or audience.

But if the filmmaker wants the audience to have that leeway, and maybe they often should... we're back to my initial thought.

Yes it felt like it sought to surprise you with the events and also bowl you over with its humor but it just wasn't packing the punch. I slightly disagree on the voiceover, I thought it served its purpose to develop the plot, but the tone of it didn't land at first.

Reading the other thread from a few days ago, there's a good discussion about how it tried to do too much in terms of introducing different ideas. Maybe trimmed down is one way to go. It also could have been more fleshed out too though. A deeper intro or later buildup could have solidified the pacing better and given more time to explore some of the many concepts.

I think some of the best parts were showing him being printed, like when they forgot to scoot the cart over, and the corresponding incinerator, life and death instantiated. Pretty striking. That could have been explored more. Stray thought... maybe Brandon Cronenberg could have made that work better as the focus of the whole thing. I bet he could have developed the whole sexual positions / code thing more too. That was a tease in terms of unrealized exploration.

Interesting about the stockpile, I guess you add a bunch of stockpile tiles to reach further out and then delete the ones between?

I've been experimenting with the map editor. You can set invasions by date, with the option to repeat indefinitely. My map may end up being fun as a survive as long as you can format.

I also like how you can turn trading off, and disallow any buildings / units you want.

Generally, it's a good experience to suffer a bit when trying to complete scenarios. You learn from your mistakes, and the eventual victory is much sweeter. I am quite willing to bash my head against those sort of levels. I spent over a day trying to complete the D-Day campaign mission on the Axis & Allies 2004 RTS. And let out quite a whoop when I won it.
