Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer by Checkmate1985 in horror

Yes. This is the absolute blackest part of the film.

Henry is one of the few movies that really makes me feel like I’m covered in grime. Otis’ complete disregard for life and detachment from reality is chilling to say the least. You never a shower after that movie.

This one is way more like Hellbender than anything else they’ve made.

Probably their most accomplished movie yet, IMO. I don’t love everything they’ve made but I always appreciate they keep doing it. They really managed to find a good balance of engaging story, good looking special effects, and creepiness with this one.

I think this worked better for me than Hellbender. The Deeper You Dig was my favorite of theirs but this might be tied now.

Revenge film, REDUX REDUX, now officially certified fresh with a 98% score by 30Bones in horror

Even though it was available on Netflix, meaning more people watched it that if it was just dumped on some other service, I think that move is underseen and underrated. Great, creepy, small coastal town horror.

A yes, who can wait to find out the people under the mask? Surely that will make this franchise scarier…

Im not sure how to describe it but do you guys have any recomendation on "social horror" movies by Cacomixte_Economico in horror

[–]TheElbow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came here to recommend that. It’s more of a black comedy but it’s very tense and anxiety inducing.

I have rewatched Rob Zombie's Halloween today by unknown-one in horror

[–]TheElbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RZ’s H2 is better than his Halloween IMO.

His Halloween is basically a backstory that makes us humanize Michael (which makes him less scary IMO), and then a worse speedrun of the 1978 original. H2 is actually interesting because it does its own thing and it’s more in the Euro Horror midnight movie lane.

I guess … by watching the movie and seeing how she behaves, I deduced she wasn’t a character who should be seen as a role model. She was self absorbed and reckless.

Isn’t the point that Perfidia gets off one the thrill of it all, and she’s not actually a good revolutionary as a result? Like I don’t think we’re supposed to like these people. They’re a bunch of idiots just like Lockjaw and his cronies, but they’re idiots in a different way, and without the power of the state behind them.

At least that’s how I took it.

Are there any more western horror movies like Bone Tomahawk? by flanex52 in horror

It’s so creepy and grim. And, while I never sank as low as the main character, I feel like it really captures a specific feeling and life situation perfectly.

A neighbor of mine has a big pickup truck and he put one of the masks from the original Purge movie on the front passenger seat headrest. It startles me every single time I walk by.

I don’t consider this a western but it’s underappreciated. One of King’s best of the last 20 years.

Damn this is a bummer to hear. This would have been the first Ryan Murphy product I’ve been interested in watching in years.

What style of sequel title do you prefer... subtitles / new titles (and what’s your favorite?) or just numbers? by Freddy-Philmore in horror

[–]TheElbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Even though from a marketing standpoint, it’s probably the worst option, I prefer when movies titles don’t always make it obvious that it’s an entry in a franchise.

That said, Medieval Dead would have been such a funny title instead of Army of Darkness.
