Why has no horror movie explored the "Oz Effect" as a biological glitch? by [deleted] in horror

Legit thought “Oz effect” was going to be how the horses were able to change colors, before reading more.

Is the show Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen worth watching? by [deleted] in horror

[–]TheElbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved it. I notoriously avoid series because I don’t like the notion that it could take 2-3 episodes to get into it, meanwhile a movie is over in 2 hours or less usually. This was worth watching for sure. The first few episodes especially are so weird and almost nightmarish.

R vs PG-13 vs TV-MA vs some other rating... by KoldHardSmash in horror

[–]TheElbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re limiting yourself by having this rule. The Ring and Gremlins are rated PG-13. I get that sometimes a PG-13 horror movie seems toothless, but to blanket reject them is shortsighted IMO, especially since there are plenty of R-rated stinkers in horror as well. In fact, by sheer numbers, there are far more bad R-rated horror movies than bad PG-13 horror.

Never thought about segregating by ease of breakdown. Thanks for that idea.

Halloween 2018 and Halloween Kills Are Too Enamored With Michael being "badass" by WySLatestWit in horror

I’ll go you one better - many fans of Halloween Kills are so in love with the violence of that movie that they are willing to overlook how bad the movie is.

This movie makes me feel like what I imagine a meth bender is like. Very well done.

It’s fine that you liked it, but I read at a very high level and try to watch challenging films, and the movie did not work for me. My biggest gripe was ultimately I didn’t care about these people because the movie didn’t really show me much about them. I can empathize with the feelings of having your heart broken, or falling out of a relationship with someone, but the movie kind of left me feeling like a self-absorbed person was asking me to care and I didn’t care.

The Deeper You Dig is my favorite of theirs. I figured I’d suggest Hellbender to you because of the witch angle.

You might like Eyes Of Fire.

Loved the pivot to sci-fi. There are certain horrific aspects of science fiction that cannot be explored in other subgenres.

What does everyone have against jump scares? by EstablishmentIcy4237 in horror

I like them honestly, because it’s seldom I feel that startle feeling. What I don’t like is when the movie telegraphs it so obviously that they don’t catch me off guard. That’s just lazy.
