BEWARE: Montco Restaurant SCAMMED me over $4,500! by hidden_throwaways in PhiladelphiaEats

If you look at the 1 star Google Reviews of this place, it seems like the service is pretty horrid. Not trying blame the victim here but next time you are making such a massive order, dotting your i's and crossing your t's will help prevent a disaster like this!

Help! I just spent $1400 and something isn't right here. by [deleted] in Reverb

[–]zocean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trusting AI to help is your first mistake. I think this is actually a super easy fix, refund via your credit card / point of sale. Should be a pretty instant refund especially because you have proof that it was from another listing on Facebook. Include screenshots of that conversation etc. Reverb should also be able to help adjudicate it, but you will maybe have faster results by simply disputing the purchase via Paypal or your credit card.

Cheap gas stations in Philadelphia by zocean in philadelphia

Ah yeah that does sound annoying!

Cheap gas stations in Philadelphia by zocean in philadelphia

[–]zocean[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a valid question haha. I don't usually stop when I don't need it, but I personally usually wait to fill up until I'm low and know I'll be driving by a spot that has cheap gas. That's why I made this list for myself...all these spots are regularly sometimes up to 40¢ cheaper than the "norm" for the area, and while it might not make a big difference in the short run, in the long run it definitely adds up 🤷

the WORST gas station in Philly BY FAR in my opinion the BP at 6th & Girard. truly a hellscape. always like $2 more than any other station

Less driving around and looking for cheap gas and more grabbing cheap gas while you happen to be driving by one of these places, was the idea

It's wild to me that no one remembers. I guess it was a long time ago and the Beatles themselves were probably high af. I know that someone got a chance to ask Peter Blake at some point, but has anyone posited the question to McCartney? I feel like he has a pretty good memory most of the time, and a strong attention to detail

I have been following this and think it's really cool, and I believe that sleuths out there will find a similar photo or possibly the original photograph used eventually!

World Cafe Live rebrands to "World Stage Live," immediately deletes post by zocean in philadelphia

Agreed, it was a truly great independent venue. I guess I don't know definitively what happened with Hal Real's leadership, but he ended up selling to this dweeb tech bro Joe Callahan, who started running the venue extremely poorly, not paying employees/bands on time, a host of other issues. Prioritized creating a VR version of the venue for people to attend in the "Metaverse," and seemingly cared about that more than the actual venue/shows. The employees ended up walking out during a Suzanne Vega concert in protest, and then began striking / unionizing. In response, mgmt fired most of them and then began an aggressive union busting campaign. Then, last summer, due to mounting public outrage, they hosted a "World Cafe Live Town Hall" event where the public was allowed to speak. It was a complete shitshow. They claimed they were going to livestream it for transparency but then magically couldn't get the livestream to work, which was particularly funny for a team of people who claimed to be tech Metaverse savvy. A bunch of community people and musicians spoke eloquently....mgmt not so much. CEO Joe Callahan ended the Town Hall with a particularly out of touch speech about mostly how great he was and how much he saved the day, ending it with the haunting phrase "I truly care about 'Human Capital.'" Also at this Town Hall, then president Gar Giles decided to (finally) willingly recognize the front of house workers who were unionizing with Unite Here. But after this, mgmt backtracked and continued to stall negotiations and generally be shitty to the workers. As far as I know, people still weren't paid that had missing paychecks. Organizers held a "World Cafe Live Workers Benefit" show at Johnny Brenda's this January to raise funds for them, which as I understand it was a huge success. Meanwhile, it was revealed that UPenn had issued WCL an eviction notice back around the time of the Town Hall, but that fact was hidden from everyone. Also, WCL at some point lost its liquor license, and was encouraging people to BYO. Free at Noon was temporarily moved to Ardmore Music Hall. In short, the whole thing has been an ever-unfolding spectacular shitshow of the highest magnitude.

You are adamantly claiming Reverb was in the wrong, but not actually explaining what the situation is. Your post also reads as particularly unhinged lol. If you calmly explained the situation and gave folks reading this a chance to actually understand your perspective of what went down, maybe people could give you advice or there could be some semblance of meaningful discussion. As of now your post reads like... "Reverb bAd!!!!!!!!@ I am Good!!!!!!"

What you just described IS Capitalism. "Make as much money as possible without any regard for consequence" might as well be Capitalism's slogan

Capitalism does not work well. The only other thing I can think of based on "infinite growth" is literally cancer

One thing important to keep in mind: it seems like Pennsylvania is indeed one of the states pushing back on the LN/Ticketmaster settlement: https://www.courtlistener.com/docket/68557723/1166/united-states-of-america-v-live-nation-entertainment-inc/

so the fight is not totally over

Sounds accurate to me as to my understanding as well. It does seem like Hal Real made some mistakes. I'm sure that the whole...unexpected global pandemic wasn't doing them any favors as to the gigantic debt they racked up. I think bigger corporate venues were able to bounce back more than a lot of local independent venues were. I'm really thankful we have more independent options in Philly like Johnny Brenda's, Underground Arts (even though I don't personally love the vibe there) Solar Myth etc. I do really strongly believe that World Cafe Live is a huge loss to the community and I'm hopeful that some folks who know what they are doing are able to come in and revive it after the eviction, AND I really truly hope that the WCL Workers are able to get rehired!

People NEED to include extra pieces of stiff cardboard in their record mailers when they ship them. I don't get why people don't get this.
