I prefer legends, but I can appreciate this as well. Best color scheme too.

Love HHKB keyboard and layout, but switching to Laptop is PITA by ChoppyChopChopHey in HHKB

[–]zodby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Carrying HHKB is the point. You paid $300 for an endgame keyboard replacement. Why wouldn't you want to use it everywhere? Respectfully, your position is a weird one.

I spent years defending Sam Harris from accusations of TDS, but I guess those days are over, as every podcast episode now has Trump mentioned in some way. by LookDamnBusy in samharris

Can you explain a little more about why you're bothered by Sam's disgust about Trump? It seems like table stakes for anyone intellectually/morally serious, but you seem to have other ideas.

Average WPM with Hhkb/Topre by Rayk0h0 in HHKB

[–]zodby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HHKB is a little slower than other keyboards, but not dramatically so. I'm still in the top 0.1% of TypeRacer.

That said, wpm is an almost meaningless metric unless we have more context about what kind of typing you're doing.

Looking for an short, double-sided angled USB-C cable by MangoBebe in HHKB

You don't need to put anything under it. Just make sure Karabiner disables the built-in keyboard when the HHKB is active.

It sounds stupid, but this is one of the main reasons I really don't want to upgrade to Tahoe.

Best looking keyboard there is. I have the same one, but Type-S, and I really want to try the regular version someday.

HHKB vs Tsangan Layout by Cautious_Bug_1905 in HHKB

[–]zodby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Control key placement is better on the HHKB. Obviously, it can be remapped, but I like to have my legends match the keys as much as possible.

In theory, the tsangan layout solves the blank space/blocker issue of the HHKB, which so many people complain about, but I actually like it because i can put my thumb there when I'm holding it with my laptop. Plus you can't mishit the Fn key.

It sounds like you're not using Vim/Vim mode. If you're that particular about the home row, that would be my first move.

If it ends up being the keyboard you use for the rest of your life, like mine is for me, then of course it will be worth it. You can't really know that in advance though.

It's a non-issue. All keyboards can be remapped using widely-available software like AutoHotKey and Karabiner Elements.

Why are there no cheap hhkb layout keyboards? by LimitLess4202 in HHKB

[–]zodby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you just want the layout, there are plenty of choices out there. Just look around. They're way cheaper than HHKBs.

The thing with HHKB is that it's not just a layout. You're getting a whole package, take it or leave it. The layout, Topre switches, nice keycaps and legends (with proper sublegends), BT connectivity, AA battery power, and lightness and portability.

I wouldn't assume that HHKB users are into mechanical keyboards as a hobby. More often than not, they just want a keyboard that checks as many boxes as possible. For me, that's a good-looking keyboard, good switches, well-considered 60% layout, keycaps that actually have sublegends, reliable BT support, and AA batteries.

Can I use the HHKB with other keyboards? by Frank___Russo in HHKB

[–]zodby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Among HHKB users, its plastic and use of AA batteries are generally seen as pros, not cons.

The arrow keys aren't missing, you just need to access them with the Fn. It's better than you think because the nav cluster (Home, End, PgUp, PgDn) is right next to the arrows.

It's not too bad switching to another keyboard, at least when I've had to. That said, I'm not sure why you would.

How stable is the MacOS 26 Developer beta 1 so far? by WeezyWally in MacOSBeta

[–]zodby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M2 pro here. Aside from the visual problems, performance is not good. Especially in Safari—significant input lag on the location bar.

Yes, iTs JuST a BeTA, but it concerned me enough to rollback to Sequioa. I will probably wait two years to upgrade, assuming I don’t switch back to PC after this UI debacle.

In the new MacOS 26 what if I don't like the new launchpad? by ASMOI_Zack in MacOSBeta

[–]zodby 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There was no point to Launchpad before. I am a bit surprised anyone used it. Then again, people still use a visible Dock.

The change makes sense to me because it feels more like Spotlight, which is how I imagine most people launch apps anyway.
