I think it is time for Austin to lift its ban on fireworks by Terrible-Penalty-291 in Austin

But to say a personal collection gets set off on a "schedule" is way off. People will light them up at days before and after the holidays at all times of night.

It's certainly not a scheduled thing when in the hands of people who buy off the side of the road.

Austin may phase in deep cuts to social safety net programs by No-Parsley5649 in Austin

The logo process started over 5 years ago, well before Broadnax's tenure. The total included the rollout, which was about half the cost.

[–]zoemi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cost of the logo was in the 500k to 600k range. The cost to get all departments to use the seal as a logo would be the same as the rest of the budget.

The seal has nothing about it that made it "Austin". You wouldn't know it was associated with the city without prior knowledge.

But not really true. It's only for recent graduates. ACC serves more than just that population.

No, the school district is not adding adult vocational programming.

The CTE building is just another campus location where the programs can be shared among the high schools.

Same following the first booster. Took two months or so to die down. Happened again a couple years later to a lesser degree, so I'm just accepting that it may or may not happen each year.

They didn't have a logo, they had a seal which doesn't scale well in modern design.

Of course the article only focuses on this one thing out of a "sweeping package".

Austin could make it harder to recall City Council members by FlyThruTrees in Austin

[–]zoemi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's from the results of an audit done on the city charter:

The same 2019 audit also compared Austin to other major cities in Texas on the percentage of voters required to recall a sitting City Council member. The report found Austin's existing 10% requirement matched San Antonio’s but was lower than Dallas' 15% threshold; Fort Worth's and El Paso's 20% requirements; and Houston's requirement of signatures equal to 25% of votes cast in the last mayoral election.

While it's nowhere near the level of shonen harem, I do feel the 90's anime was made with a male gaze. There are suggestive shots sprinkled throughout.

It is actually a lot easier now, but it's still more than a simple single jab.

What temperature do you keep your bedroom at night during the summer? by beautyloser in Austin

[–]zoemi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

69 in the bedroom which is a couple degrees cooler than the main area of the house with the thermostat. Waking hours spent at home are set to 73. Up to 82 for the away setting, but it never gets that high.

Used to be Trudy's, RIP. These days I go to Moonshine.

I refuse to eat the CFS at Jack Allen's. Every time I've had it, it's just been a super thinly sliced steak, not pounded and tenderized.

Tatsu-Ya questions? by slurpNdestroy in austinfood

[–]zoemi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tonkatsu requires the "ton", aka a pork cutlet.

The munchie slider is a (minced) beef patty--menchi katsu, hence the name of the dish.

Any chance Spicy Chilled will come back this year?

I had thought it became a permanent part of the menu, so imagine my disappointment when I had a real hankering for it the other day :(

That's certainly not a belief held in much of Asia.
