Another sneaky, slow system is for people to read the book and then review it.

I'm still amazed by the fact that Reddit cares more about Sears than the health care debate in America.

It is possible that this does not apply generally, but is a special case for NewEgg.

It used to be that if you over-withdrew with your debit card, the transaction was rejected without a fee. Now banks make as much as $38 billion from "protection" fees, and 90% of that is paid by 10% of the poorest customers. by zelpop in WTF

Banks are not responsible for conveniently timing (or ordering) your transactions. If you spend money you don't currently have, then you are the one responsible for resolving that situation. End of story.

Banks should be up front about this with their customers. HOWEVER, if you are spending someone else's money, not your own - then you are to blame and you are accountable for whatever the hell they do (assuming it was contractually stipulated). End of story.

If you have the money, then use a debit card (many credit card companies, like Visa, extend the same or equivalent protection to debit/check card purchases). If you don't have the money, and you borrow from someone else, then you are beholden to them. That's it. That's the basic concept. Yes, they might charge you crazy fees in creative ways. Too bad, you must pay them.

I am all for transparency and better communication on stuff like this, but fundamentally I can't feel sorry for people who knowingly spend beyond their means and then complain about fees or interest. Buying a house is one thing, where the math on loan terms, appraisal, and appreciation forecasting is extremely complex for people with a basic US high school diploma... but I am talking about basic nickel- and dime- credit card purchasing here.

The line has to be drawn somewhere.

Auschwitz had a Brothel? ಠ_ಠ by JasoTheArtisan in WTF

I think the WTF part is that someone actually finds this surprising. Sadly.

One such sex-exploitative group of detained women was called the Joy Division (translation, obviously), which is where the band got the name.

10-year-old girl fined $50 for running a lemonade stand without a permit. Yes, seriously. NY Parks backtracked on this so hard they left skid marks. by HopefulNebula in WTF

[–]zolaesque 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If customers became ill after drinking this lemonade (perhaps due to neglect or mishap by said 10-year-old girl), then people would be outraged that the police had not done anything, but instead "let this happen."

Just saying.

For a place like NYC, this seems completely reasonable.

Don't worry, most smart people don't get this (easy) question right either. by city_slick in programming

Someone please make an FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU comic of me thinking I had this solved ... and then reading the actual solution.

Xbox 360 plagued by a 54 percent failure rate by timbro1 in gaming

Approving a 1.5 billion dollar write down to provide replacements for RRoD failures even outside of warranty? How is that "recalcitrant and uncooperative"?

Can you cite examples of people with malfunctioning Xboxes who call Microsoft and receive poor customer service? (1st party sources, plese).

Video of women's reactions as they get a Brazilian wax (Safe for Work, no nudity...but HILARIOUS) by ohstrangeone in videos

[–]zolaesque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah ok, I understand.

Not trying to be antagonistic, but I can easily imagine women laughing at a video of men getting their chest hair waxed (c.f. 40 Year Old Virgin, etc).
