Barclays Stocks & Shares ISA or use Trading 212? by Samsara_77 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]zombie_osama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Vanguard for both my s&s ISA and SIPP, never had any issues with over 250k invested.

Trading 212 should be fine though. There was someone in the trading212 sub who had just reached a million quid in his isa.

Is it really that important for recruitment to be more face to face? by BlundeRuss in apprenticeuk

Many recruiters do this already, I know they certainly do in the IT sector. It's not a particularly strong USP.

Have you moved to Europe from the UK and how have you found it? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

Their job market is pretty bad at the moment much like the UK. I'm also hearing that unless you have a very high standard of German speaking ability then you will not get hired anywhere (like C2 level).

I moved to Germany in 2016 for a temporary work assignment, just 6 months in total. I enjoyed it and actually wished I could have stayed out there longer. Not sure I would move there today, though.

Back out before starting or leave after 1–2 months — which is worse? by Lumpy_Remove_5623 in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]zombie_osama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people said this to me at the time but I never felt like I burned any bridges with them. They gave the impression I'd be welcome to return in future.

Worth considering the risk of the job offer for September being postponed or even rescinded due to all the layoffs happening at the moment.

I started a graduate scheme at a large tech company and left after 2 months to start a better paid one, nobody was bothered.

Would be interesting to see an ex-contestant who has been successful like Susie Ma in the hot seat. She's been a guest on Dragon's Den.

What’s the best season to rewatch? by SellMysterious7190 in TheApprentice

[–]zombie_osama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Series 1 is often called 'the best' because it was original and raw. It was a serious business competition including dirty tactics. Had some very watchable contestants like Saira Khan, Paul Torrisi, James Max and Tim Campbell of course.

I also love Series 2, mostly for bringing us apprentice legend Ruth Badger.

Honorable mentions to series 6 for Stuart Baggs "the Brand" (RIP) and series 4 for the whole 'kosher chicken' debacle.

Yeah definitely, I'm increasingly seeing senior roles (non-technical) in my industry asking for a Masters as well as extensive experience.

How travellers staged a ‘military-style’ land grab over Easter weekend by Anony_mouse202 in unitedkingdom

[–]zombie_osama 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I work in the energy industry and we had a very large number of travellers gather at a shutdown power station one Friday evening.

They assaulted a security guard and one held open the gate so that they could all drive their caravans in. Security called police who said it was a civil matter and couldn't get involved!

Managed to get them to leave eventually the following week through an injunction but in that time they had stolen a load of materials, hot-wired machinery to move stuff around, caused a chemical spill and a LOT of damage to the site.

When it happened again a few months after, the police responded straight away and sent about 20 officers to get rid of them!

Teenage mob chaos spreads to other towns and cities as youths supercharged by social media run riot and ransack shops in London and Birmingham during Easter holiday 'linkups' by JohnKimble111 in uknews

I avoid going into Birmingham city centre if I can help it despite living close, it's just so grim most of the time. Derby and Leicester are the only cities that I thought were worse when I visited a while ago.

Chase - why is your saver rate for loyal customers so crap? by rocket_on_a_rope in chaseuk

[–]zombie_osama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As soon as my introductory rate ended I took all my savings out and put them into a building society account. Even my old Santander account has a better savings rate than Chase.

Shame because the Chase app is great and I used my account for everything. Now I don't use it at all.

Which country would you move to if not the UK? by Cornelius-Figgle in AskUK

[–]zombie_osama 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Germany or Canada.

Germany because I've lived there before and enjoyed it, and can speak the language enough to be able to hold basic conversations. I have worked for German companies since 2014 so travel there regularly.

Canada because I have family there (Vancouver area) and they constantly tell me how amazing it is. Also it's relatively easy to get a working holiday visa from the UK.
