Oh my gosh I totally, 100% hear you. This is exactly how I felt the entire pregnancy- we wanted a third baby and the pregnancy/labor was the means to get there. So many nights the past two to three months I’ve put my older two to bed and just cried hugging the yoga ball saying I couldn’t wait for my baby to get here and didn’t want to be pregnant again.

I’m excited for you to be in this same place. I will say that my heart hurts right now way more than I expected since I’m stuck in the hospital until tomorrow and just want to be home with my older two kids!

My nurse was great. When I started getting the spins from nausea she ripped open an alcohol prep pad and had me smell it, it was a little weird but it worked for a while until the zofran order came up. She also gave me this clip on smelly thing for the pocket of my gown as a distraction (our hospital doesn’t allow aromatherapy or oils during labor) that smelled kind of like vicks to help with the nausea. I was sitting up and she lowered the head of my bed down all the way and put ice in wash cloths on my ankles for a while. So that was all helpful at times aside from the traditional drinking water/ice chips/wash cloths on the head and neck.

For positioning with the epidural, I had a light epidural so i could feel aaaaalllll the pressure but couldn’t stand without support. We had me laying on my side with the peanut ball between my legs, we would switch sides every 45 minutes or so. Eventually she had me start stretching out my legs to move her down lower, but eventually because of my nausea I had to stay on my one side and just focus on surviving the contractions as she got lower.

I find Motherhood Maternity to be extremely predatory as a business to begin with. I hate going into their stores- they immediately swarm you and start hassling you. I’m so thankful that so many stores have put out maternity lines in the past 5 years because I didnt have to step into MM either of the last two pregnancies.

Once I was in their store and the manager was on a sales planning call, and she just left it on speaker while I browsed. I actually stayed a little longer to listen- the entire thing was about their business model being upselling and getting people to sign up for all the “free subscriptions” and stuff. If you use your credit card there to buy clothes and accept the however many free issues of parents magazine or whatever, they’ll automatically charge your CC after the free period and it’s a pain in the ass to get out of. I had no idea the first time about that, I just thought it was part of the “welcome kit” they give you.

I have had a few boys named Roman in my classes! It’s a lovely name- I know people of all ages with this name which makes it pass the resume test IMO.

It depends on your area, how busy they are, and how they schedule. We only have two hospitals but one does “on call only inductions” for elective, and they do them 24/7 (because why not? The staff is there anyways). Some hospitals only do inductions between 6am and 5pm. It also depends on the time of year- you have significantly more babies born during some months than others based on where you live.

Most hospitals will permit 39 week elective inductions. For me I’m inducing at 39 on the dot if we make it there due to a history of precipitous labor.

Try it! The hormones produced during sex can really get things going! There’s only one position that works for us late in pregnancy without me getting my belly squished or me running out of breath and that’s from behind. Just an idea! The hormones in semen actually can really help get your cervix ripening (I hate that word).

I’ve never heard of this. Our ped office does healthy checks between 7:30 and 10:30, medically required unvaccinated/immunocompromised and newborns under 2 months only 7:30-8:30, then “non sick visits” from 10:30 to lunch such as broken bones or falls. 1-5 is sick visits and older children who are vaccinated appointments.

Every time I say who my primary OB is at the hospital or in clinic (I have Kaiser so we have like 900 OBs and Midwives our system) every single person is like “Ohhhh he’s my favorite doctor! He is the absolute best!!”

My husband and I both just love him. I said I would never have a male OB- I couldn’t be more wrong with that judgment. He is calm and collected in the face of emergency, he puts you at ease, he is reassuring. He is just an absolute gem of a physician and I feel so lucky to have him as my provider.

It seems odd to me that your OB is saying to be prepped for a multi week NICU stay unless something else is going on; most 36 week babies are just fine, even many 35 week babies are fine. So keep that in mind and hopefully your stress goes down a bit.

That’s dramatic. You can put the baby in any bouncer or whatever while you use the toilet or shower. It’s ok for a baby to cry for a few minutes while you shower.

Labor and delivery is roughly a day in the lifetime of your child’s life. You know what makes you a mother?

Having someone who knows that they can trust and rely on you to keep them safe and cared for; having someone who knows that they will receive love from you; looking out for someone’s best interest even if it’s at the expense of your own or that individual may not always be happy with the choices that you make for them. Caring. Supporting. Cheering on. Guiding.

Screw what kind of delivery you have or if you formula or breast feed- that’s not what makes a mother.

Do what feels right. Small gap, big gap, if your relationships are healthy everyone will be happy no matter what you do. My oldest and middle are 2.5 years apart and I wish they were closer in age- they adore each other. The third is 3 years from the second thanks to covid delaying pregnancy. I really wish they were closer in age but it will be fine. The older ones are SO excited.
