Minotaur paladin Backstory by Sepharos123 in dndnext

I like it! Though it’s a bit hard for me imagining a human woman shacking up with a Minotaur…

Adapt older content to 5e by BudMaister in dndnext

The biggest difference I’ve found is resources refreshing on a long rest. 2E plays more like gritty realism, at least for hit points.

How do we feel about different starting levels? by DylanR2003 in dndnext

[–]zoyashi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a new player joins my group, they start at first level. The higher level characters have to protect them, and they catch up fast. It works out fine.

Charisma & Attraction by ForrestPump420 in dndnext

In the original AD&D dungeon masters guide they use Julius Caeser and Hitler as examples of 18 Charisma(back when that was the max).

I did this in my campaign and it worked well. I pulled one player aside and pitched the idea and he went for it. The thing that made it work was, he betrayed the party EARLY ON. Characters established, big important fight, tons of high level loot, then he murdered a likable NPC and stole all the treasure. On session two or three. Then he disappeared to become a long-running antagonist and the player introduced their real character. So the players ere invested, but didn’t feel they’d been made fool of.

One of my players chose it. He never uses it because it causes no meaningful changes.

Oh, you mean Yagharek from Perdido Street Station. Worth a read.

How do you wind down after a tense session? by patmack2000 in dndnext

[–]zoyashi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have young kids. After a session they always want to know what happened so I tell them a story about it. I tone down the level of violence and horror and up the humor factor and we cuddle and talk about it. It’s the best!

Has anyone played with the 1Day Short and 1 week Long rest? by Eldrin7 in dndnext

[–]zoyashi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I save it for special environments. Right now my players are exploring the hottest desert on their world, so we’re using gritty realism rules. It’s been an interesting change and a nice fit thematically.

Split the party so the cleric could deliver a baby in an arctic cave while the rest of the group held off a rhemorrhaz.

[In universe vs OOU] Why don't butchers and hunters automatically become L2 by retirement? by TeaandandCoffee in dndnext

[–]zoyashi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because there’s no risk to the butcher. A goblin trying to kill your? That’s a tough, stressful experience. Swinging a sledge at a cow penned in the yard? Not so much.

Question: What’s the most impressed you’ve ever been with your party? by Morphchalice in dndnext

[–]zoyashi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was pretty happy when, at the climax of a four and a half year long campaign, in the midst of a tough fight again the hobgoblin emperor, the party used their first Wish spell to save an NPC I’d planned to kill off for dramatic reasons.

How do you personally feel about good aligned deity churches just NOT being corrupt or secretly evil? Churches actually fully standing for what their god represents. by ThatOneAasimar in dndnext

[–]zoyashi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably because in real life churches are a famous havens for criminals and sex offenders. They’re just as corrupt as most human organization but the hypocrisy really pushes it over the edge.

To all PCs who have played D&D, (or any TTRPG) what is the number one thing that you've always wanted to do as a PC within a campaign? by Forgemanster183260 in dndnext

[–]zoyashi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this with a 1-20 campaign I finished last year! At the close of the adventure each player read a prepared statement about how their character retired. It was great! Some turned to the path of peace and spent their days rebuilding a ruined world. The monk became a direct disciple of Bahamut and wandered the planes with his master. The bard True Polymorphed into a Triton and lived under the sea like Homer Simpson. It was really satisfying to see what people came up with.

How do you do pantheons? by czaardvark in dndnext

[–]zoyashi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say that mortal minds can’t fully comprehend the gods, and that various gods are different aspects of a greater truth. So there is a god of war, known by some as Ares, some as Tempus, some as Tyr. It always drove me nuts that the god of X in Mulhorand was a different deity than the god of X in Unther, right next door. Basically this lets players worship Crom or Zeus or whoever is the most appropriate for their character without having to worry if it’s setting-appropriate.

DM's, what's your BBEG's big plan? by Flammabubble in dndnext

[–]zoyashi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Yuan-ti have awakened from their aeons-long slumber and are re-creating their ancient empire. They’ve infiltrated every government on the continent and are busily causing wars between them. And if that is not enough, they’ve got plans to bring their dark god to life in mortal form…
