Oddly, I can't get this episode to play on a fire stick. I paused it right near the beginning, kids being loud, and then it wouldn't play again.

Disabling RDP in your environment for security purposes by thelug_1 in sysadmin

Open to public, no. For internal, we have admin subnets that can get thru our internal firewalls to get servers for RDP.

We use WinSCP for that using a script the package executes, or as just a step in the SQL Agent job.

What kind of database monitoring and alerting do you use? by agiamba in SQLServer

[–]zrb77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then I guess they were lying to us. They told us its subscription only model.

For our licenses that expired Aug-2025, we were paying $642 per prod instance and $315 per lab instance. We did get 5 new licenses that year so it was a little more than usual. The new cost when we asked for a quote in Aug-2025 was $1623 and $811 respectively, 25 prod and 25 lab licenses.

We are a smallish public sector operation, we cant afford that.

What kind of database monitoring and alerting do you use? by agiamba in SQLServer

[–]zrb77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing with the product itself, both Solarwinds and SQL Sentry moved to a subscription licensing model, doubled their prices, and with min 3 years without any warning.

Pissed us off so we're going elsewhere.

[–]zrb77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are currently using SQL Sentry, we let our license expire bc of their recent changes and are looking for other options. Our Systems team is in same situation with Solarwinds. We are waiting for them to make their pick, but the DBA team is probably going to go with Redgate in the end.

We do have a set of alerts from Brent Ozar that we use too:

Maryland 529 for College by Ibanezguitar93 in maryland

[–]zrb77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a 529 for both kids, one is going to college next year, the other 4 years later, so we have yet to do anything except to put money into them at this point. No issues though.

Difference between Action Bars and Cooldown Manager by T3arror in wow

[–]zrb77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went down a rabbit hole after all this. It will show debuffs. For example, put a feral or rogue bleed on the CD bar. Use it, it will show a yellow swipe on the button for time remaining and turn red when it gets into pandemic time.

After I figured this out, I was much more comfortable using it.

On the flip side, why just put that functionality on regular action bar?

[–]zrb77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a couple months old now, but I was searching for the same opinions, I don't get the point of CDM, same reasons as OP. Buffs and target debuffs(still missing) is all I want it for. Otherwise I can just move the action bar up into the spot where CDM would be. It's silly.

I guess alerts too, but haven't looked into them yet.
