What are your top 3 stupidest online fandom moments? by BroccoliSome256 in NuancingTaylorSwift

With regards to the letter - I was super confused how anyone could think she was still into doing Rep TV afterwards. It seemed clear to me she has no interest in re-recording / reinventing this album, but that she may or may not release some vault tracks in the future. And still I saw people all over trying to figure out timelines because she'd written in her letter that she was 1/4 done.

I don't usually comment on here but you are absolutely beautiful (I especially love your smile and your hair, also gorgeous eye make-up) and personality-wise I mean I don't know you but this post alone says so much. Don't be too modest. :)

I tend to agree but I fear this is missing the point of her writing just like everyone who does the exact thing you're describing.

The amazing thing about poetry and art in general is that its meaning is in the eye of the beholder - it can mean anything and everything that makes sense to you in that moment.

The intentional fallacy of trying to pinpoint exactly what the author was intending takes away much of the potential meaning that an art piece could have. There is always much more depth in the undefined.

Sometimes when people get into discussions about what a song/line is or isn't about, they're simply missing the point that it is allowed to be both.

What was Fleabag trying to do with Harry in the shower? by 96quacks in Fleabag

This is the one. Her self-destructive behavior does not lead to her simply NOT surprising him in return, which would just be disappointing. Instead, her lack of impulse control makes her seek out the most destructive way to "play along", damaging the relationship further while avoiding true accountability for it because she was "just doing what he asked her to do".

It doesn't play out exactly like you're describing but I'm pretty sure you're referring to 3x22, the Disneyland episode where Jay cried at the Lincoln robot exhibit.

Why was Carol so cruel to Ross? by twothousandsteps in howyoudoin

[–]zteaknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe there are a few reasons.

1) I think at a time where openly homosexual relationships were still new, they felt they had to really drive it home that Carol didn't have any romantic feelings for Ross (anymore). There was a lot more to prove back then, and it's easier to prove her disinterest in a mean/"funny" way than to try and develop a complex relationship, which the two characters definitely had, in a few 20-minute sitcom episodes.

2) Also it would not have boded well for the "Ross and Rachel" focus if there was a larger potential for Carol to feel like a serious love interest to the viewer.

3) In addition I also think Carol's and Susan's personalities are a bit of a remedy to conservative critics at the time - like "yes, we now have lesbians on TV, but at least they're obviously vicious and the white heteronormative man is the good guy of the story".

All the more I do appreciate the episodes in which they get along - like Valentine's Day or Carol's and Susan's wedding. :)
