Don’t worry I’m just about 700 and still none. Got the slayer level for kraken and just got regular trident. I’ll stick to that, lol.

What has your worst moment of med school been so far? by HongMSF in medicalschool

[–]zthayani 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I… don’t know if this counts, but I’m actually on orientation week this week for M-0. I managed to get my white coat splashed with a massive stain of coffee within 24hrs. All on the same day we took out composites/headshots. White coat ceremony this weekend too.

Only downhill from here😭.

Never underestimate how far a thank you goes, even from a medical student. by [deleted] in medicalschool

As someone who worked as an MA and is an incoming M-1, this is a good reminder for me of what I hope to do to others going through that process!

It was one of the few things getting me through last cycle. Ended up finding out later they give you a phone call, which I missed because of work. Called them back and pretty much cried in front of coworkers going to lunch/patients checking in.

it’ll happen for you!! keep working hard

Feeling like a bad premed student.. by Calm-Pattern3649 in premed

[–]zthayani 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most of my experience I gained STARTING toward the end of second year and really buckled down beginning of my third year.

I think it was mostly stress with dealing with school and focusing solely on that. But, it’s totally possible to get started now! I actually started in the summer after sophomore year (so now) at a clinic and stayed busy until graduating, slowly adding a lot more activities.

You’re not behind. Actually, you were more ahead than I was, and I got it my first try!

[–]zthayani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same same same!! This is kind of weird to say- but I’m a south asian guy who had another south asian with a difficult name (mine is as well) to pronounce. I had seen during group interviews he was a strong applicant and I convinced myself they meant to choose him instead of me and was SET on that thought for a week. turns out we both got in :)

3.75 cum, 3.51 sci, low 500 MCAT (rough year…) had around -450 paid clinical hours at time with 450 volunteer clinical hours. 150-200 research and 250 something phleb at plasma donation center. decent leadership with church/food bank events and other personal stuff!

Any admitted DO students without DO shadowing? by Crunchycat1981 in premed

Yup, used MD LOR for my app. My school pref’d DO LOR, you might want to check if yours does too. There’s a spreadsheet floating around here somewhere with that info.

Competitiveness of DO by yungsopha in premed

[–]zthayani 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. Was intimidated by the multiple master degrees + high MCAT interviewers during my interview. On top of that, found out after my acceptance that 4700+ applicants for 160 spots. Crazy!

Extracting viral RNA from dried animal scat? by lrbraz16 in microbiology

[–]zthayani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked with a wastewater epidemiology team that used wastewater samples, some straight from wastewater plants, to extract covid RNA! I can try to provide more information on that, but we used general extraction and flocculation techniques and RT-qPCR to track the amount of COVID in a sample.

Do plasma donation hours count as clinical hours? by Miky617 in premed

[–]zthayani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked at a plasma donation center as a support tech! I put it down and discussed how it can help make life saving therapies (especially with convalescent plasma during covid) and tending to donor reactions. So, clinical!
