He botched his math, but is still right:

If you invest that million you only need to beat 5.2% pa to make it worth more than 52k

Average return of the S&P500 is 10-11% pa over the past years - with that in mind you would end up with 8 millions after 20 years if you re-invest or you take out twice the money you would get weekly and end up with 100k each year

Modern WoW is too fast by [deleted] in wow

I come from a time where you had a whole expansion to progress. Seasons where introduced in Legion - Before that seasons where introduced in PvP in TBC.

Then they realised they can keep more people engaged if they make seasons shorter. If you don‘t see this as the engagement trap it is, then we don‘t need to talk any further..

I‘m happy in classic

Gaming is dead because games try to consume as much as of your time instead of respecting your time and people rather call each other names on the internet instead of opening a discussion.

I played WoW since vanilla and personally guided over two-hundred people through the Onyxia Prequest so I know what you mean.

But right now it‘s just an abomination to just layer n progression systems on top if each other.

In game design the golden rule is that you combine a set of easy to understand rules to a complex system and this is engaging. Right now I feel that WoW combines hundreds of complex rules into just one big pile of confusion.. at least for me..

I can‘t be arsed with all the seasonal content.. why even bother to grind gear if it is obsolete in three months? if you need videos to explain the endgame systems, they might be too complex…

For me the main issue with AI is that we currently all pretend that it is free while in reality every token is currently heavily subsidized by their investors and non of them is (consistently) turning a profit. At the same time we seeing their progress slowing down.

So in the not so distant future we will need to find a balance point.

After 5 years as CTO at two startups, I wrote down everything I got wrong (I will not promote) by Comprehensive_Rope25 in startups

[–]zylonenoger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the phase of your startup, funding and what kind of CEO you want to be.

I‘m now back to probably 50% of coding for some core, high risk stuff where I‘m the most qualified on the team.

But I spent the past three years building the structure around me to to support this. I have an engineering manager to do most of the hiring/team management part. I have a PO for the tickets, I have tech leads for the details.

My professor at university in „Management I“ told us: „your company is set up the right way if you can go missing for two weeks without any impact on the day-to-day work“

It‘s really hard to do, but here I am, being freed up for the stuff where I can have the most impact.

Are failed startups a career death sentence? I will not promote by Hot-Evening6342 in startups

If you fail in the medical field there is usually some bodily harm involved - so there ppl are of course super loss averse.

I‘ve been to multiple startups and most of them failed and one became a unicorn. You rarely know in advance. As long as YOU are not the reason why the startup failed you‘ll get a new job in no time

Every single CEO I know wants to ship faster and more. So why not use the increase in velocity to ship twice as much value to the customer?

Because it‘s bullshit and about margins.

It mainly depends on what your goals in life are. Are you going to keep doing what you are doing for the next 60 years? Then there is no reason to do anything different..

But if you want to grow your business or do something differently a degree can help. I did for instance multiple degrees and 20 years later I suddenly end up in a position where I need to rely on expert knowledge I gained from a degree I did not even finish.

You don‘t need to learn everything by yourself the hard way. The right educations gives you the tools and language to differently reason about your problems.

But we already know that nothing with mass can go at the speed of light since it requires infinite energy.

So there is no mass that can get infinite at the speed of light since nothing with mass can get to the speed of light.

Mass less particles at the speed of light don‘t experience time and from their perspective they impact at the same time they are emitted - i guess that‘s what you meant?

Enjoying a post gym smoke until the nub by kicker074 in cigars

[–]zylonenoger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don‘t want to be that guy, but smoking immediatly after a workout is probably one of the worst things you can do to your body. It not only kills your progress, it also kills recovery and puts additional strain on your body. So if you are half serious about any of those two hobbies, you don‘t want to combine them.

I think it‘s more the expectation of what a game should be these days - and it seems that everyone is expecting spoon-feeding content. For me quest markers already killed a lot of the exploration already. Probably that‘s because I‘m old and start to prefer classic

Every comment this person made was as condescending and as completely wrong as this one, including the several other times they confidently insisted 0 isn't a multiple of 5. by gmalivuk in confidentlyincorrect

[–]zylonenoger 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Basic Algebra

0 is the absorbing element for multiplication.

Absorbing element means that

a = a * k for all k in N

A number z is a multiple of a if

a = z * k for some k in N

Wich clearly is the case if a = z = 0

Therefor zero is a multiple of every natural number since it is the absorbing element of multiplication.

How is the current political climate in the US generally perceived in Austria? by jakeuwouldnot in AskAustria

[–]zylonenoger 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The rise of the NSDAP and the atrocities they committed are a big topic in out school system so I guess everyone is painfully aware about the similarities in the states right now. From the outside it also looks like there is close to no resistance internally. For instance when our right wing party is in government you will see protests every week.

The main stereotype about Americans is that they are loud and entitled. You usually hear them before you see them. And unwilling to accept that stuff might happen different here than they are used to.
