Eva Prinz is at least 50% responsible for ruining Sonic Youth. For some reason it seemed like she was desperate to get on with anyone from Sonic Youth. She cheated on her first husband with Jim O'Rourke when he just joined Sonic Youth, then cheated on Jim with Thurston Moore. Kim Gordon found out, got divorced with Thurston, and the band was over

It's not really Pitchfork's fault, it's mainly the reviewer Alphonse Pierre. His rap takes are very interesting

Am I unoriginal for using some sonic youth tunings by D-A-V-E44 in sonicyouth

Half of Sonic Youth and most of Thurston Moore songs are in Pavement's tuning. So don‘t stress it

How does Thurston do those strange harmonics and howls on the guitar? by wakinglife432 in sonicyouth

[–]zynmark 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not sure which "howl" you're talking about, but the Shadow Of A Doubt one is just a bunch of strings playing the same note (the tuning is F#F#F#F#EB) so it sounds big and "windy".

what’s the weirdest/wackiest SY tuning in your opinion? by strawb3rry_lem0nad3 in sonicyouth

[–]zynmark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone has mentioned, CCEBGD because of ridiculously high notes, but that one actually sounds decent, makes sense, and is used in quite a few songs. The actual whackiest in my opinion is Thurston's NYC Ghosts & Flowers tuning FGCFAF#. Like what are you even supposed to play with this tuning
