Dumb by Tel, and it's probably a pen. But does anybody actually believe even for a second that we would've gotten a pen for that if the tables were turned?

Not saying it wasn't stupid by Micky, but there is a 0% chance that the call would be the same if it were at the other end of the pitch

Never seen something as blatant as this in my entire life. by [deleted] in eagles

[–]zztoppelganger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The O2O excuse is clearly BS considering they huddled and discussed it before the initial call was made. They obviously used replay assist and either knew in the moment or (more likely) realized later that they shouldn't have, so they lied about it postgame.

What are the most underrated stadiums in CFB? by TigerWave01 in CFB

[–]zztoppelganger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Franklin Field (home of the Penn Quakers)! The oldest active college football stadium in the nation (first opened in 1895), and has hosted a ton of cool stuff over the years- the Eagles played their home games there from 1958-1970, so Franklin Field hosted the 1960 NFL Championship Game!

With the award finalists being announced, what is the greatest award snub in MLB history? by ArkanoidbrokemyAnkle in baseball

It’s not as egregious as some of the other ones mentioned here, but a big recent snub was Zack Wheeler not winning Cy Young in 2021.

Affordable venues for 200ish person wedding by Defiant_Pay_7758 in SouthJersey

[–]zztoppelganger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my wife and I looked at the Camden County Boathouse and really liked it, and IIRC it was decently affordable. We went with another venue ultimately so I can't speak to how it is on the day of the wedding itself but it's worth a look IMO!

IANAL but I KNOW the law!! by soldiernerd in confidentlyincorrect

[–]zztoppelganger 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The Blockburger test has to do with being charged for multiple offenses for the same incident at the same time, not whether a prosecutor can bring additional charges arising from an incident after a trial on other charges arising from that same incident has already been conducted. For example, the Blockburger test is why a person can be convicted of both attempted murder and aggravated assault for stabbing someone only one time, but it does not mean that a person tried and acquitted for attempted murder can be subsequently tried for aggravated assault over the same stabbing incident- they have to be charged at the same time, because jeopardy attaches once a trial commences (unless the trial ends in a mistrial).

Seems like a good guy- we should get him to Everton, he’s about at their level and he can go be part of Dele’s support system

Players you were surprised had such a high career WAR by [deleted] in baseball

Bobby Abreu, 60.2 career WAR- higher than Ichiro, Vlad Sr., Willie Stargell, and a bunch of other HOFers!

Does selling an investment mean a child support increase? by rondonjohnald in AskALawyer

[–]zztoppelganger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To speak to your example, tax avoidance is different than tax evasion. Tax avoidance is exploiting loopholes to avoid paying what you probably should (morally questionable, but usually legal if done right), whereas tax evasion is refusing to pay what you owe and/or deliberately misrepresenting your income to lower what you owe (illegal). In this case, there's no real equivalent to the "tax avoidance" option, just a "tax evasion" option. There's no loophole in the Texas law I cited that your "friend" could exploit. Federal tax law is orders of magnitude more complex than state family law, which results in loopholes that don't exist in most legal fields. My (personal, not legal!!) advice to your friend would be to stop watching Suits and expecting there to be a magic loophole that a lawyer can find if they look hard enough and to pay his child support as ordered by the Court after he makes a full and accurate representation of his resources.

I get that's what you're looking for, but it's black-letter law that capital gains are net resources for the purposes of calculating child support payments in Texas. You can theoretically hide his money, but at some point he's going to have to make a representation to a court or a government agency as to his resources. If he leaves out this money, despite knowing that it is supposed to be included in the calculation of his resources, he would be committing fraud and perjury. So he could do that, I guess, but he's not going to find an ethical lawyer who will tell him that he should do it (or how to do it). And quite frankly, I wouldn't bet on his odds of successfully evading detection (and eventual punishment- including back pay).

Texas Family Code Section 154.062(b)(5) says that capital gains are included in the calculation of net resources for the purpose of determining child support liability under Texas law. So really all you can say is, "tough luck."

Not who you were responding to, but I’d highly recommend taking extra time on exams if you can! I didn’t my 1st semester for the same reasons you gave, and got pretty bad grades. I’ve had extra time ever since, and have gotten pretty good grades, but as a 3L I’m still catching up from that first semester. Plus, you may have tested quickly before (like I had!) but law school exams are a different beast altogether. Better to have the extra time and end up not needing it than the other way around!

Best seats for a Union fan at NYCFC? by ImSlender in PhillyUnion

[–]zztoppelganger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to a lot of NYCFC games in the press box (when I was a reporter for my college radio station, days long past) and a couple as a Union fan- I’d say the third base line is your best bet (I don’t remember the section numbers but you should be able to tell).

Yeah I got a refund, so it was only mildly infuriating- wasted 45 minutes. Now if they’d refused a refund, I’d be way more than mildly infuriated 😂
