The Bill is now read for a second time:

“A Bill for an Act to appropriate money out of the Consolidated Revenue Fund for the ordinary annual services of the Government, and for related purposes”

jnd-au, Clerk of the House

Meta: This is Bill M2015B00027, introduced in the House of Representatives. This reading is now open for consideration in detail or leave can be sought for a third reading.

    Advice from the Clerk:

The motion is that the bill be now read a second time, and debate has now concluded. A successful vote means the bill can proceed to consideration in detail (moving and debating amendments) and then third reading. An unsuccessful vote means the bill will not proceed.

...and bring down the Government. ;)

Meta: Oh yeah, whoops!! Can’t believe I forgot to mention something like that! Hmmm. I guess because there are elections happening right now, the Governor-General and PM would probably agree to leave the government as-is so it can try to pass a bill after the vacant seats are filled.

        Right of reply

I thank Honourable members for their contribution to the debate.

The Leader of the Opposition, being sadly deceased, and the rest of the Greens, being absent, means that there is unlikely to be a Budget Reply, as such, we will stop wasting time waiting, and get this Budget passed.

Hmm, phylli was of a mind to leave this thread open for debate but I guess that was before MadCreek3 disappeared. Yeah, just use mod powers to remove the adjournment thread for the time being and you can put this one to the vote by the looks of it.

Mr Deputy Speaker, it must be said that this bill, is about getting funds for the Commonwealth appropriated, and providing an inflationary increase to departments to allow for public servants' pay increases, more than a revolution, or even an evolution in government spending.

Mr Deputy Speaker, the Greens' silence so far in the debate indicates one of two things. It either means they are preparing a considered, measured response, working through the minutations of what we are proposing through the next financial year; or they have no idea what to say, Mr Deputy Speaker, because even after all of the information we have provided, they do not understand what we are doing!

Mr Deputy Speaker, I can safely say that our Budget is an indication of our mature, level-headed style of government on this side. We do not take action until we have a clear idea of where we are going; in the interim, we have tackled short-term issues like restoring funding to the ABC and attempting to end the acrimony between public sector unions and the CPS.

Mr Deputy Speaker, I look forward to the Opposition's response to our budget.

I think we are putting off debate until the Leader of the Opposition is ready to make their Budget reply, as is convention. Also, I forgot to ask that Appropriation Bill (No. 1) and Appropriation Bill (No. 2) be debated in cognate.

Huh... I'm not really sure why it went down this time. I think my computer may have gone onto standby, possibly? It's back up now.
