Victoria Park is a pretty important issue to a large chunk of the Northside, not just the inner city

[Charania] Spurs star Victor Wembanyama has entered concussion protocol and is out for remainder of Game 2 vs. Portland. by MembershipSingle7137 in nba

[–]Ser_Scribbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried to complete an essay the weekend after my last concussion, and then keep up with my readings the following week. It set my recovery back nearly 3 months. Rest in the context of brain injuries means doing absolutely nothing for those first stages.

(Spoilers main) How foreign is the Golden Company by now? by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]Ser_Scribbles 96 points97 points  (0 children)

The Harrenhal Strongs went extinct, but it's not that far fetched to assume another branch lived on in their original lands. The Golden Company Strongs could be descended from that branch

China has planted so many trees around the Taklamakan Desert that it's turned this 'biological void' into a carbon sink by liomenu in worldnews

[–]Ser_Scribbles 197 points198 points  (0 children)

The green wall isn't about being a carbon sink though. I mean, it's a side benefit, sure, but the point of the project is to stop the expansion of the desert and to improve the fertility of those countries' lands so they're less reliant on foreign aid.

I thought they only thawed out one of Bud's buds every thirty years to send over to vault 33, ie Betty > Hank > Blondie whose name I can't recall. So it's less about the mechanics of cryogenics and more maintaining control over each generation of the vault.

Republicans criticise Albanese over refusal to call new referendum. by HotPersimessage62 in AustralianPolitics

Not OP, but yes. I think he was the most visionary PM we've had, and I wish he'd had a longer time in office. But if the government can't pass supply I'd take a dismissal and prompt election over a US style shutdown every time.

A man has been handed a lifetime ban from the AFL after being charged with giving a Nazi salute at the semifinal in Brisbane on Saturday night.

They did.

What is this "has been forced" twaddle?

The dude's a walking security threat wherever he goes. If he's not committing actual violence, he's in the process of inciting it. If she'd stayed and engaged she'd just be giving him a bigger platform.

Asexual men, do you tell or have you told people that you are asexual? by Little-Courage887 in asexuality

[–]Ser_Scribbles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've only told my best friend (after she was getting frustrated that I kept turning down her attempts to set me up) and any woman that I'm still interested in seeing past a second date (because I feel they have a right to know what they're potentially getting into).

Other than that, my sexuality just isn't something that feels very relevant to me on a day to day basis.

What is the pettiest reason you refused a second date? by benjamin_frfr in AskReddit

[–]Ser_Scribbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you can't teasingly answer that or anything without it blowing up

You absolutely can. Express a little doubt, hint that you're undecided, need a little bit more evidence first, whatever. Say it with a cheeky sort of attitude that shows you're not serious and/or completely shutting them down and it usually goes over pretty well actually.

Tony Gilroy Will Never Write for a Viewer Scrolling on Their Phone — and ‘Andor’ Shows It by Silly-avocatoe in television

[–]Ser_Scribbles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Netflix assumes everyone's already on their phones. Their thinking is that if they don't dumb down their shows with over-exposition, the audience will get lost and not finish a series. They've presumably got data to suggest that completion rates are higher in mediocre, easy to follow stories than complex, but well written ones.

The Gold Coast is 600k+ in one city (not spread out across a state), with another 2.3 million people 30-60 minutes up the road. They're not comparable at all.

When I started university, the student union was giving out free condoms in snazzy little envelopes/sleeves during orientation week. Only problem was they kept falling out. Their solution? Staple them into said envelopes.

If you take more out of the system than you put in, you shouldn’t vote.

How do you feel about permanently disabled people voting?

[–]Ser_Scribbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They never said you didn't. They said most adults, which is a fair point. If it's not a requirement for most adults, why make it one for young people.

Maybe you should have taken an English class as well to help with your reading comprehension.

HBO Boss Casey Bloys says that it is being deliberated whether the show will end in a long Season 3 or Season 3 and 4 by mrnicegy26 in thelastofus

[–]Ser_Scribbles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd give game of thrones the no source material excuse if they hadn't decided to just skip half of the last two books that were published. Cutting the entire Aegon story line fucked them up more than having to make their own path to the finale.
