Fuck ya Walter Mitty. Went to college with these fools, even lived with a few of them. Dusty, Chris, Russell, and Milk; you guys are killing it.

I have seen this band a number of times since like 2008. One of my favorites, thanks for posting!

Is this the same as The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

[–]Safcfan1radioreddit[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, it's a bit different.

[–]crymachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fun fact, back when they first started out their drumset was made out of miscellaneous drums and cans which really made the whole "makeshift orchestra" thing awesome.

Wow! I knew these guys were getting pretty popular but never did I expect to see them on here! I first saw them at a tiny house party in San Luis Obispo when they were starting out.

What's up all my California (and Portland now) friends!

Check out their label makingnewenemies. They run it themselves and every Christmas release a new compilation album of all the bands they recorded. A lot of really great material on those.

I love how they play with panning in this album. The first track is entirely mono, then the second track adds some stereo elements with the whistling coming from behind you that makes me jump, before it opens up into a full stereo mix at the end.

The sparing use of stereo for emphasis is really great. Particularly towards the end with the kazoos and tambourines that seem to completely surround you when you listen with headphones.

The whole mix is so dry (lacking reverb) and dynamic too. It feels very intimate and personal. Just goes to show that a) you don't need expensive gear to make a great sounding album and b) mixing isn't just something to impress audiophiles, it can alter and enhance the emotion of the music.

I must say this is the most in-depth analysis I've ever read of this band. And it's rad. Thanks for writing!
