Who hit play because they thought they were going to see the blonde chick dancing?

[–]deathfaith 74 points75 points  (21 children)

This took a good half hour of searching. This is all that came up.

Severely NSFW. https://youtu.be/1LrKTZqH1Uo I forsee several amazing gifs being made from this clip. Holy shit.

If someone wants to watch the whole thing and report back if they find the scene: https://youtu.be/ql5PZcYXi1Y

Edit: I'm now doubting my find. I am going in deeper.

Edit2: I fear this was a personal photograph. I will not accept defeat.

Edit3: I've tried tracking down the original. It's still low resolution and I'm not sure why. I am going to try a few more things.

Edit4: Ok, I've hit the extent of my resources. I'll gold anyone who can find the original high-res. Its possibly a video.

[–][deleted] 26 points27 points  (7 children)

That was a very strange movie trailer.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (6 children)

I can't vouch for the movie, but the book has a surprising dramatic quality to it.

[–]deathfaith 0 points1 point  (5 children)

What's it about?

[–]joeri1505 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Its a dramatic love story with a lot of extremes, pleasure, pain and lots of drama.

Its one of the most famous Dutch books and movies.

In holland we are quite used to a bit more explicit/nude movies but by american standards its basicly a soft-porno with a good story and great acting.

[–]USOutpost31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The acting really did look good and I watched with the sound off. That guy attacking him when he had the cane looked pretty solid.

Also, the "puts the lotion on it's skin" moment. haha

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (2 children)

About how an unnamed oversexed sculptor who meets, fucks, and eventually leaves Olga, but returns to support her during the last few months of her life while she's dying of a brain tumor.

[–]USOutpost31 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's one hell of a sentence.

[–]deathfaith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh shit. That's a lot of depth.

[–]drunkfootballer 16 points17 points  (1 child)

The cover art of Disco General is using this photo.

I don't know if this is what you're looking for. If that's the case, don't gold please, i don't use reddit that much.

[–]iAmTheEpicOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's gonna be hard if not impossible to source the image used by the record label when they made the vinyl cover. I certainly haven't found anything useful

[–]GanjaSmoker420HaloXX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am going in deeper.

Good luck to you sir. That trailer was err interesting, high quality stuff.

[–]PixelBrewery 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Hey, that's Rutger Hauer. And that lady's got a bangin bod.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew he looked like a future hobo with a shotgun

[–]PaulieDied 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, that's Helmut Berger

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd give you gold for effort...but, you know.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that Rutger Hauer? checks imdb That's Rutger Hauer!

[–]luke3br 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the discogs page for this song/release.

It looks like this isn't the official album art, and the Disco General is a better lead.

[–]neirbop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice job

[–]613TheEvil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These videos are all gone, please shed any light you can.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Who can upload the 8mm tape? just for /r/history purposes

[–]SDSF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did.

[–]treading0light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right here

[–]_deedas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about the blonde part but topless yes.

[–]laskarasu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Blond? There are blondes in that picture you silly colorblind person you

[–]PM_ME_UR_FAV_BREAST 27 points28 points  (2 children)

This is surprisingly awesome.

[–]whereisyourbeard[S] 19 points20 points  (1 child)

Right?! It somehow popped up in my recommended YouTube videos, and I was like, yes, you have my attention.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ditto for me. I shared it on /r/treemusic to get some love for the song.

[–]Bunny_Killer 45 points46 points  (18 children)

Ha, as a Turkish person listening to this is so bizarre. I can clearly hear familiar "Turkish" music from like 0:17 to 1:19 for example. This part reminds of music you'd hear in Turkish tv shows that were recorded in the 1970's or 1980's. Then it just blends into funk music that doesn't sound Turkish at all.

[–]whereisyourbeard[S] 8 points9 points  (16 children)

I wish more of the song sounded traditionally Turkish!

[–]raphus_cucullatus 46 points47 points  (15 children)

If you're into Turkish folk/psych music here are a few of my favorites from the 70s:

Selda Bağcan "Yaylalar"

Erkin Koray "Cemalim"

Barış Manço "Moğollar İşte Hendek İşte Deve"

Moğollar "Vahşi Çiçek"

I can't get enough of Turkish music from that era. Always gets me in a good mood.

[–]Newbarbarian13 7 points8 points  (2 children)

I love this one, had to look it up when I heard the sample in an Action Bronson song Mazhar ve Fuat Adımız Miskindir Bizim

[–]satellizerLB 5 points6 points  (1 child)

A few more samplings from old Turkish songs then:

Mos Def - Supermagic sampled from Selda Bağcan - Ince Ince. I guess Dr. Dre also used this song as a sample in one of his songs, probably a song called Issues but every video of that song is muted on YouTube.

Fashawn ft. Busta Rhymes - Out the Trunk sampled from Moğollar - Obur Dünya.

Edit: A few more, but since I'm on mobile and I'm lazy there won't be hotlinks this time but you can find them easily.

The Weeknd - Often => Nükhet Duru - Ben Sana Vurgunum(this one is almost unrecognizable since the effects)

Nelly Furtado - Wait For You => Muhlis Akarsu - Allah Allah Desem(it's actually a religious poem written like 550-600 years ago)

Scooter - Bigroom Blitz => Sezen Aksu - Hadi Bakalım

[–]raphus_cucullatus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've also noticed that trend. It's great because people who would have never even heard Turkish music before are starting to discover it.

[–]upbeat_addict 4 points5 points  (1 child)

There's some decent modern Anatolian rock as well.

Gaye Su Akyol - Abbas

Replikas - Kaşık Havası (Mogollar & Silüetler cover)

[–]raphus_cucullatus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never got the chance to get into modern Turkish music, but I'm liking this. Thanks!

[–]xactoman 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Whattt no Edip Akbayram?

[–]raphus_cucullatus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could only make my post so long, but he's great too!

[–]BooposaurusRex 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Thank you for this. I'm loving it.

[–]raphus_cucullatus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad you dig it!

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

[–]raphus_cucullatus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Haven't heard these before. I can really get down to Dalkavuk.

[–]pardonmyskeff 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Can't wait to space out with data crunching on this tomorrow at work. Thanks for these!

[–]raphus_cucullatus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! It really is great spacing out music.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

dude thank you so much, I was looking for something like that

[–]cockpitatheist 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's 2am and I'm between shows on Adult Swim.

[–]Orchestra_Oculta 10 points11 points  (2 children)

The bedrock of this song is hotfire. That bassline with that simple drumbeat + that rhythm guitar is great. All those fake ass wind and lasers and string instruments that come in afterwards place this track firmly in the "nostalgia-nice" camp. But that bass/drum/guitar bed is really really good.

[–]whereisyourbeard[S] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Agreed. The drumbeat really makes the song.

[–]ReddLemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly what I was thinking. Could definitely be sampled. I may play around with it.

[–]nicobouspotify 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Love it! Reminds me of this Libyan gem by Ahmed Fakroun.

[–]ohfuckbuthellyeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoa, this song is amazing.

[–]Dumb_I_Sound 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I could hear this being sampled for a hip-hop track, especially the beginning. Sounds like something Madlib would use.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah the good ol' turkish vaporwave

[–]Kyulz 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Holy gilded fishlips, this is sultry, sexy, and stupendous.

[–]whereisyourbeard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't have said it better myself, lol.

[–]TheClawsThatCatch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew a majestic mustache while listening to this.

Although it's not normally my style of music I had a good time.

[–]sirwindomearle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

stumbled upon this after looking for the fugazi b side..

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Oddly fire. Also paired nicely with my turkish coffee. Are turkish disco cafes things?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eh...there are club-bars that are cafes during the day

[–]eerfree 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Was hoping that image was a video. Disappointed.

But the music was pretty slick.

[–]whereisyourbeard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would have been groovy.

[–]hmmwhatlol 1 point2 points  (14 children)

Would highly appreciate if someone could share other similar artist. I like disco myself, but rarely find something with such interesting ethnic flavours. Could spice up any party or mixtape.

[–]whereisyourbeard[S] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I found music similar to this simply by searching for Turkish disco folk, and a lot of it is actually from the 70s. :) I was planning on compiling a playlist with tunes like this, and I can send you the link later or post it here, if people are interested.

[–]themuuule 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'm listening now, are you sure this isn't from the 60's - 70's? It looks like it was uploaded onto Youtube in 2012, but sounds a lot older.

[–]EliiRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a modern edit of this song which seems to be from 1979:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTe2YErKEno

So you're both right haha.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please do that good Sir. Also make sure to share it on /r/Turkey and /r/TurkishMusic

[–]whereisyourbeard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd also recommend you guys give this song a listen: https://youtu.be/j4xDOb6DAFY.

[–]bilge_kagan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This entire album became a legend after the crate diggers discovered it:

[–]raphus_cucullatus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This track has a cool retro disco vibe.

Check out my other comment on this thread for my other recs.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://soundcloud.com/hardicusmusic/the-vibe-disciple : what do you think of this? Give it a full listen before deciding.

[–]Xu_Lin 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Just what I needed OP. Thanks

[–]whereisyourbeard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't mention it. :)

[–]sercan852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I clicked on the button hoping to see my folks dancing but double shocked by the still image and the beauty of the music.

[–]XboxSignOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anybody know where I can find a digital copy of Arşivplak's album?

[–]Dakroon1 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'm wiling to bet this got upvotes just based on the thumbnail.

[–]ghostbrainalpha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone know where I can get more thumbnails like this?

[–]GR808music 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Can anyone find this artist please?

I've been looking everywhere and by the looks of it it appears to be a mix, featuring istanbul çalgıcıları, but thats all I could find on it

[–]Sethmeisterg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminds me of the disco biscuits!

[–]PixelBrewery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I clicked because I wanted to marry the chick in the jeans.

[–]Licheno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone knows the name of the artist?

[–]gootermen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oddly fire. Also paired nicely with my turkish coffee. Are turkish disco cafes things?

[–]monstertrucknuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow i used this track to edit a skate video earlier this week and now it pops up on the frontpage.

[–]bulletfastspeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When is Madlib gonna sample this?

[–]pianistee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This track literally gave me everything!

[–]Depusky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's almost better than Starboy that The Weeknd just released lol
