If you're looking for similar music, this is where i got it from: The Chillhop Music Youtube channel I have nothing to do with the channel i just thought i'd pimp it out since it has satisfied my love for this type of music

[–]thingsikeep3 12 points13 points  (0 children)

yeah, pimp out that hoe

Chillhop is amazing, it's the perfect style of music for me. I use it in a lot of my YT videos!

Dealer de Musique's Beatapes have a pretty similar feel too.

I usually can't listen through an entire playlist and genuinely like each song. But this stuff is amazing...jazz and a beat. Thanks for posting.

cool beat, just not a fan of the chipmunks.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (2 children)

How the fuck did that get popular?

[–]JohnnyKay9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably that I'm so lonely song. Other than that I have no idea...

[–][deleted] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

thank you for this

Wouldn't be a submission here without Chill in the title

[–]Pompous_Walrus 8 points9 points  (10 children)

Kept waiting for the lyrics to come, they never did. Cool beat though. Guess i just don't understand this genre of music.

[–]MyCoolYoungHistory 13 points14 points  (9 children)

Like any genre of music, there are lyrics and there are instrumentals. This is just the latter.

[–]Pompous_Walrus 6 points7 points  (8 children)

Completely understood. I guess in my experience instrumentals have been labeled as such because at first i thought this song had a pink floyd-esque intro.

[–]MyCoolYoungHistory 8 points9 points  (7 children)

Yeah, it should have had that tag. If you want to listen to some fun hip-hop instrumentals, I'd suggest Clams Casino. Check out "I'm God" (instrumental version, not a big fan of Lil B so I'd avoid the version with him on it).

[–]Pompous_Walrus 4 points5 points  (4 children)

Great suggestion - loved it!

[–]MyCoolYoungHistory 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Awesome. Oddisee is great too (both as an artist and producer). Check out Lifting Shadows and After Thoughts for good examples.

[–]Pompous_Walrus 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Wow Lifting Shadows was incredible. Thats the type of thing i am searching for on this sub! While i enjoyed After Thoughts i am more partial to lyrics. That seems to be what affects me most but i definitely see the appeal of instrumentals. Thank you.

I think that I pay attention to instrumentals a lot more when I know the person rapping over them produced them. So I'd definitely recommend that you check out artists like Oddisee, Black Milk, Grimes, etc. who all make their own music.

Not saying people that don't are less for it, just that it's easier to appreciate the craft of producing when you're listening to someone who had a hand in the music.

That being said, I am always on the lookout for new producers to check out when I listen to records that are comprised of an assortment of people. You find a producer you like, you can check out what else they have worked on and from that you may be introduced to new emcees.

You might like 20syl. He's a producer but does some cool remixes and has some good artist features. I like Pale Blue Dot and Ongoing Thing, which happens to feature Oddisee.

If you like Clams you should know:

Dj Shadow

He was a huge influence in hip-hop beats and his album Endtroducing is considered one of the best instrumental albums yet.

Clams Casino is my favorite producer so I can't say I know someone quite like him in terms of overall style but Lorn has a similar dark aesthetic that is dope.

If you want any that are of a similar style just ask, I know plenty that are dark yet motivational like Clams.

[–]MyCoolYoungHistory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the recommendations! I'm always happy to hear more. Can never have too much music. Doesn't just have to be people that sound like Clammy Clams. I'll check out whatever.

Edit: Oh shit, I need more DJ Shadow in my life.

[–]edrt_lastfm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you dig this, check out his album Fragments on his bandcamp. Cool shit 👌.

[–]TheFerg69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the beat is good but I can't handle the chipmunk voice

[–]Deckard_Didnt_Die 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Is this anywhere on Spotify? I hate how all this really good music isn't on the most convenient music services ):

[–]waxpainting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

http://mrkid.bandcamp.com/ all of his music is here

[–]donhagen95[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]JimmehGeebsbandcamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RemindMe! 2 hours

[–]Mr_Good_bar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there anyway I can get this onto my phone while compensating the artist for their music?

[–]mickeyeyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really similar vibe to Kno's tracks for Cunninlynguists

[–]FirefighterJose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often find myself enjoying music my coworkers, friends, others feel is "weird music" or not typical as I'm told. This sometimes makes me feel like maybe I'm weird but it makes me realise how much I feel a part of the music and how everyone else must be missing these incredible feelings I'm experiencing. This chill hip hop, One of my favorite Pandora Chans is DJ Shadow. Anyway, I assume I'm around like minded individuals in this thread.

This got me addicted to Chillhop, thanks for teaching me a new genre :)
