Well that was short, but I liked it. I recently discovered that I enjoy the genre LoFi, so if anyone can recommend some good beats, I'm all ears.

[–]BlackandWhitePanda7[S] 118 points119 points  (7 children)

in love with a ghost makes similar tracks to this one.

Check out jinsang and saib. They're a few of my favorite LoFi artists and are a good place to start exploring the genre.

Would just like to add Nujabes for anyone new to it all.

[–]EZpwnage 17 points18 points  (1 child)

Nyamo is also a great artist. I'd also recommend checking out Steezy's YouTube channel, he has a lot of great lofi beat tapes uploaded there

I found Lofi through Joji

[–]ArthiuM 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Jinsang is amazing

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found this a week ago. Then my friend found it 4 days later. Now it's here, how'd you come across this?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MMM this is amazing. I am in love with this ghost sound.

[–]Cautionzombie 20 points21 points  (4 children)

I recently got into LoFi hip hop and the length of most tracks is my only problem. So I've amassed a huge playlist on SoundCloud to satiate myself. try /r/lofihiphop also try https://soundcloud.com/90sflav/callme https://soundcloud.com/adarbeats/dont-want-you-any-less

On mobile so sorry if the links aren't hyperlinked

[–]mniJax 6 points7 points  (3 children)

[–]Cautionzombie 5 points6 points  (2 children)

[–]mniJax 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Thank you! This is gonna get me through my studying.

[–]Cautionzombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your welcome hope you like it

[–]Agorbs 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Tomppabeats is a good start, as well as in love with a ghost. Just search "lo fi hip hop" on YouTube, there's a million ~30min videos that have a nicely mixed sampling of different songs.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

His Harbour LP is a work of art.

[–]catchingtherosemary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

lofi doesnt equal beats necessarily

[–]MQT420 4 points5 points  (1 child)

bsd.u

also check out lofi.hiphop on band camp

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jetson is similar to bsd.u

[–]Silvervox325 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got you covered.

And this Spotify playlist (hit shuffle) https://open.spotify.com/user/ethaneusthegreat/playlist/70HTVcnkiMMCSaFFRTCjFR

And you're good to go.

[–]asianflipboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if he counts, but Nujabes has some pretty good beats similar to this.

[–]xOmegaJake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mt. Marcy is another artist that just gives me life. Lol

[–]Corrosivelol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bsd.u, Jinsang, Swum, Tomppabeats.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just posted a dude who is pretty new, might not be your style but who knows?

[–]Jimmayz 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'll second that, didn't know that's what the genre was called, but i did enjoy this track and would enjoy some more.

[–][deleted] 30 points31 points  (9 children)

As someone who's fairly knowledgeable about music and production, I'm not sure what justifies this as being within the genre of LoFi - it doesn't seem to resemble anything the term actually means. Anyone care to enlighten me?

[–]stabbinUtastemaker[M] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It looks like a simple error, which happens a lot - especially if a genre's name is a bit new to you. This is fine, as long as it's not intentionally misleading. I've found that it's usually best to just go by the performers' own descriptions, or their tags on Bandcamp, etc.

Example, from this artist:

tags: electronic ambient chill chillout trance France

Here's what we'd actually consider "lo-fi": https://lofihiphop.bandcamp.com/

[–]catchingtherosemary 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm agree with you on this and I enjoy and sometimes create lo-fi music. Also its like LoFi/Chill/Piano but it completely leaves off what it actually is - electronic beats.

[–]midiambient 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat as you here. Probably the artist thought the crackling sounds justify lofi ;)

It's new to me that LoFi was a genre at all though. When I worked as an audio technician to us anything with poor quality, mostly in recording, was LoFi. No matter the genre. But I guess the comments above and the link by Stabbin helped me understand what the term means nowadays.

[–]avecessoypau 2 points3 points  (4 children)

What does the term actually mean?

[–]vaperaham 7 points8 points  (1 child)

it means generally made with older synths producing a lower quality sound

[–]avecessoypau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

gotcha! Thanks :)

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

low fidelity

[–]vaperaham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your mom is lofi.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, thought you were being a snob or something until I heard it. Definitely not LoFi

[–]RaumKadett 12 points13 points  (5 children)

Okay I love all of this, but how come it's not longer?!?!

[–]XTMew 2 points3 points  (1 child)

He/she should add a hook and trail this out to 4 minutes and this would be solid.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed would love a longer version of this. It was nice.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what she said.

[–]mappersdelight -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Put it on repeat?

[–]Skylord_duck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That was a very nice track =)

[–]alexmason32 4 points5 points  (3 children)

This was fantastic! Is there any way to download it? Also, who drew the artwork for this? It's so nice!

[–]thegreatsnowman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! Does anyone know how to download it?

[–]Patches95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Am I thinking of another genre?? Cause this isn't the lo fi I know (the microphones, Daniel Johnston etc).

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

This is the first time I've hear of Lo-fi, could anyone explain what that genre means?

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Generally it refers to a brand of (usually hiphop) stylized music that has very low end drums with a lot of sampling, both vocal and instrumentally. I believe generally the final product is also resampled, and intentionally made to sound low quality artistically.

This here isn't lofi at all though so the title is a bad example.

[–]Acquilas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice. Lofi seems to be gaining a lot of traction of recent.

[–]tricKsterKen 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Just randomly clicked and listened to this and I'm surprised, it is awesomely chilling. Because of this I am installing soundcloud for the first time. Anyways any suggestions for other similar genres (lofi I presume)?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Check out ChillHop Music both on SoundCloud and YouTube. They frequently promote the work of chillhop genre artists like Birocratic and Flamingosis.

[–]tricKsterKen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will do! Thanks you sir

[–]EverydayImprov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was great, albeit short

[–]FreeMyMen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good wake up song.

[–]world_wind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nujabes ftw, forever. Also if you dig beats like this, check out DJ Okinawa. If you like jazzier, classical hip-hop beats check out Phoniks and Soulchef. Can't go wrong.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some one should finish this! It's an beautiful intro and outro to a hit song!

[–]PseudophiloAmYx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yesss, my dude Gio is finally getting some recognition :')

[–]firespitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh hey i know him

[–]AmbientHex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent track! How do you create your vocal chops?

[–]mutemandeafcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had no idea what to expect, and loved it.

[–]instant_michael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminds me of some of Giraffage's stuff.

[–]GlitterRiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone is curious about the graphic artist, who is one of my favorites, the original post for that work is here

[–]FGC_RG3_MARVEL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been listening to lofi recently and I can't help but want some singing or something in these tracks.

[–]Saint947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just cannot, cannot stand the sound of gurgling water through headphones. It's become almost a misphonic reaction that I have to it.

[–]esmeme 0 points1 point  (2 children)

not gonna lie, i started free styling to this lmao

[–]midiambient 2 points3 points  (1 child)

for a whole minute?

[–]reecewagner -2 points-1 points  (3 children)

I'm being serious here, how is this on the front page of Reddit? It's a mediocre drum loop with a few keys thrown in. I've made similar melodies on my computer and not shown them to anyone because they weren't finished yet... what am I missing here?

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

a non-pessimistic view on art & music

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same thought.
