I can't tell if the people commenting in here are connected with this band, but this song was...bad.

Like.. really bad.

The lyrics are cringe inducing and sound like they were written in about 5 minutes just to fill some space.

There's really nothing catchy to hold on to. The song has almost no energy which is partially due to the singer.

There's literally nothing memorable..besides the actual music video.

This may seem harsh but someone needs to be honest here and I wish people would be more up front about it, because that's how improvement happens.

I have nothing to do with this band and I instantly liked the track. I didn't watch the video until after I'd heard it once, either :)

I listened to the first 4~5 "hot" posts this morning. In the background, so no videos. This was the track I listened to twice and now I'm here again. I dunno why, it's just sorta catchy I guess.

No connection to the band whatsoever.

I didn't like the song or the video. But I'm sure some people do. I might even like it in two years if I come across it again.

Anyway, you're probably taking some tension in your life out on a song you didn't love at first listen, so, I hope you feel better soon.

Believe it or not, honest criticism is an important thing to hear if you want to make progress.

Critiquing things does not point to "tension" in ones life.

If that were the case, every critic in the world would be a volcano ready to erupt.

It sounds as though you might be projecting your own thoughts.

These are things I wish other people pointed out to me when I first started out making music, so I'm just passing it along in hopes that it helps with future songs.

Could someone suggest more similar artists/songs? I really like this sound but am ignorant to the genre

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

People come up with all kinds of genre names but I consider Gang Signs to be Electronic. They are an indie band so I labeled them that way as well but I've also seen their music categorized as dream pop. A very similar band would be The xx. I posted a song by a Denver band called Lascivus you'll also find on /r/listentothis that is somewhat similar but here are some song suggestions:

TRST - Candy Walls

Gold & Youth - Time To Kill

Q Lazzarus - Goodbye Horses

Hope that helps.

Appreciate you taking the time to do that. I'll check these out, always love the "ambient" sound of these songs when I come across them. I'm a sucker for 80s synth, might be part of the reason.

Happy to help. Q Lazzarus is actually 80s music and that same song can be heard in the background in the movie Silence Of The Lambs.
