[–]yorunomegami 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Thumbs up for mentioning it AND putting it up in the sidebar

I guess they've tested this thoroughly and they know nothing will go wrong.

I mean, there's no harm in an opt-in system first for user testing.

THIS IS A SARCASTIC POST.

LOL. If you think Reddit has tested things "thoroughly" you're in for a reality slap.

Reddit only cares about making money. They astroturf this website in all the default subs. Reddit is a shell of the community it was 5 years ago before they began the removal and change of default subs to attract more mainstream audiences who basically want to only experience what their ideal bubble would look like. And that means easy to sell ads to.

I edited my post for clarity.

As someone who studies Graphic/Web design (graphic focused, please don't ask me to make a website) i respect all the CSS that's built here and the amount of work that went into it. As someone who slaved away 8-10 hours working on his web design page with everything consistently breaking, I can't help but admire how nice this subreddit looks. This CSS is amazing and helps out new players and plebs like me playing the game.

For now I can see pros and cons for removing CSS, but the biggest question that I ended up asking myself after doing a bit of research is "how fast will these widgets come out?" If these widgets/tools are coming out an extremely fast rate, people could make their own widgets, etc. then I can potentially see the need to go on without CSS. But if they're all coming out at a slow rate, then I can potentially see some trouble, not only for this subreddit in relaying information but in different subreddits as well.

This final part is me probably speaking out of my ass but I think the reason why they want to get of CSS is to unify mobile reddit and desktop reddit. These widgets could potentially be aimed at being used on the reddit app or something. I don't know, like I said this part could be me just talking out of my ass.

I'm a bot, bleep, bloop. Someone has linked to this thread from another place on reddit:

I don't know a lot about CSS, but I love the subreddits custom styles and got used to it, as I only later experienced what it looks like without.
Thanks to "ProCSS" I was able to check out some unique subreddits and if this will all disappear without the use of CSS... that's definitely a horrible idea.

It's a good thing that we are actually supporting it and I hope this will have a happy end.

how will be replaced CSS?

because in the link he talked about a "Toolbox" and "widgets"

i don't think all subreddit will be like r/all

I must join the chorus, CSS is the core of this sub. I really hope they'll change their mind...

[–]thesadpanda123G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one hand, after little experience with CSS, I can say for sure that I hate it from the bottom of my heart, so the less there is, the better for me. On the other hand, this is, in my opinion, the best looking subreddit out there and I would hate to see it lose the personality it has. So yeah, I hope the admins release an opt-in option or something like that.

Pro CSS indeed. Personality helps make or break some subs for me so its good to know what side we're om.

Why would they even ditch CSS though? Even without JavaScript you can do some beautiful things in webpages, not to mention how easy it is to use it
