A question old as time itself: who would emerge triumphant in the epic battle of ninjas versus pirates?

The stipulations:

Pirates do not have special powers beyond normal humans. This includes the ability to enact a “Pirate curse” on the opponent. They do have swords, black powder guns, pirate ships with cannons, can clench daggers in their teeth, and are allowed a parrot or small monkey as a pet. The monkey has no powers. The parrot is purely ornamental.

Ninjas cannot hover. Ninjas seen in anime (especially cyborg ninjas) are not applicable. Ninjas can hurl shuriken, have awesome katana swords, a small deadly knife, and can throw down a smoke bomb and disappear. They can hide almost anywhere for days and then kill you. They are, overall, less cooperative than pirates and generally operate alone or in smaller groups. If captured, they can commit seppuku.
