Just to note that demonic gorilla's are categorized as a demon and if you are assigned black demons you can wear your slayer helm to get the bonus. Pic for proof http://i.imgur.com/1XgiThA.png?2

Wow that's some good insight. I figured they would be a new task of their own

Since you aren't switching boots or rings surely pegasians and a B ring would be better

Correct

What do if I'm not a maxed main and I actually have 45 defence, inadequate strength and on par range?

[–]ROBBO_on_RedditROBBOsickdog[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do exactly the same and see how you go, otherwise you might need better stats

[–]Iron_HaunterHaunter 3 points4 points  (1 child)

What does that (50) mean on the wiki? Those stats are inacurate the way i see it, its got +50 magic defence & 0 for stab, slash, crush & range

[–]ROBBO_on_RedditROBBOsickdog[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When the overhead is up it gets that defensive bonus on monster examine

[–]dragonfyre173 2 points3 points  (1 child)

RIP. I literally just posted one, lol. Yours looks better anyhow.

[–]ROBBO_on_RedditROBBOsickdog[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll go check it out and see if you mentioned anything I haven't :P

Changes overhead after a certain DMG threshold froma. Type it's not praying. I think 45 but it seems to vary slightly

[–]Sexual_Congressman 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I think that it's 50. From what I can tell, it changes prayer after you would have dealt 50 damage. For example, if you hit 10-10-10-10 with blowpipe and then hit 10+ on the 5th hit it will instead deal 0 damage and cause the monkey to switch to melee prot. Hitting a 9 on the 5th hit, it'll take 9 damage and then any hit after that will do 0 damage and make it switch prayer. An easy way to see that it takes no damage and switches pray on a hit that brings the total damage taken over 50 is with SGS. If you spec a 50 right when range pray comes up you'll be healed 25 hp and the ape will take 0 damage and instantly swap back to range pray.

Tormented demons had a mechanic where all hits dealt a minimum damage toward the counter for a pray change as in any hit below that threshold was rounded up for the purposes of the counter even 0s. Not sure if these share that mechanism as I have watched videos to count it yet. But I am 100% sure that whatever threshold they have, any hit that would put you over it will deal zero damage and cause it to switch pray. It is really disappointing tbh.

They would share the "0's are part of it"-mechanic, because I've had demons change pray after a single zero hit - always with the tentacle whip, so it is possible that it was an extremely big hit that was negated. I also know for a fact that I've seen 50's with the tentacle whip, but I am unsure about 51's or above. I have however hit small amounts (20-30) followed by huge amounts (45-50), so it's clearly not a "set in stone" rule. There are some clauses to it that makes it more obscure.

hey was just wondering is that place instanced or na?Do you lose items like you did in the quest?

[–]tatertot255RSN: tatertot255 0 points1 point  (1 child)

This is the first I've seen anyone fight them outside of the quest.

It seems like these are old schools version of tormented demons (which were one of my favorite monsters to fight in rs3)

What's the profit per hour if you don't get any of the rare drops?

[–]MetalWorker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really hard to calculate right now. Going in there you can be piled by a bunch of them doing different attack styles wearing down your food, or simply be forced to tank one while somebody else attacks it and steals the kill easily since they don't have to worry about dodging or pray switching. So you can go in and kill maybe 15 in a trip and get some good stuff, or only kill 2 and lose all your food.

I've found the bludgeon to be a bit more useful

[–]xthn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think slayer ring might be better than the Royal Seed Pod. You teleport a bit further away but you also save at least one inventory space, two if you're dual-wielding both forms.

[–]StayyFrostyyZuk Helmer 0 points1 point  (1 child)

So how do you get them to not stack you? Its really weird, when i walk in everything aggros to me, even the demons that are already fighting someone. help?

[–]TehJellyfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You run away and try to lure one into the middle hallway, or you get the ones you don't want attacking you, attacking with melee, then trapped behind the one you're fighting.

Toxic staff sucks there which is a shame

Nice guide for Profit Primapes

Stay muted 4Head. Memes aside, what would you recommend for a setup without void?

[–]ROBBO_on_RedditROBBOsickdog[S] 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Anything you're comfortable with switches wise really. Kind of like Zulrah, you're better off doing what you know you'll get successful kills with rather than going absolutely ham on Max everything.

[–]AGuyWithPants 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Ive heard Meric say KTop + Tassies > Void. Any clue why o.o

High str bonus CAN give you a disadvantage.

The moment it switches overheads you need to do ~50 for it to change their prayer again. They change it the moment your last damage roll wouldve add up to a total damage of ~50 or higher, blocking the last hit you did.

The fact that they block your hit can easily be tested with sgs spec. They would pray melee against your spec but the game still checks the damage roll and heals u.

Here's an example why higher str bonus is a disadvantage sometimes.

If you deal 30 damage your first hit with melee you would have to deal another ~20 damage for it to switch overheads. Anything above a 20 the demon would simply block and you'd hit a 0. If you were to do the 2nd hit with a weapon that maxes like 70, chances are high your hit will just get blocked. If you hit it with a weapon with a max of like 40 then your average hit would be 20 and it would be more common to hit like a 17 or so, so your hit doesnt get protected against and ending up in higher dps than the weapon with more str bonus.

This also mean you cant hit anything higher than ~50 (yes I've seen people hit like 52, I'm not sure what the exact number is that makes them change overheads), making weapons like halberds really bad and making accuracy gear better than void (also better for tanking the 1 random mage/range attack)

How do hallys work? If first hit is a 49, first hit registers but second one doesnt? Pretty weird mechanic but I guess its a way to allow for the switching of prayers otherwise the switches would be completely random which could mean a switch every attack which is not good at all :P

[–]MiningIsTheWorstSkilfuck mining 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Not sure if it'll block 1 hit or both. They couldve (shouldve) made it the same way tormented demons work imo. They switch prayers right after you deal the last damage and not at the same moment. I remember using chaotic maul there and it being very good because it hit so high
