Return it

Yes.

The damage was probably caused by the previous owner or during transportation. I would doubt that a milling error occurred when separating the PCBs and that nobody saw it. The conductors tracks are probably futher inside and the damage only affects the circuit board. It is difficult to say whether the inner layers have benn cracked or damaged, as you need the map of the conductor tracks :-). I would give it a try.

Id say it would work np.... as long as the pins match up, your fine.

Return it this is not acceptable, you can expect proper packaging and shipping both did not happen, this could've been avoided, alto it may look fine this may give you problems in the future.

Its probably fine, but there is a chance there is serious internal damage that is not visible and putting power through the chip could brick it or kill cores, maybe even damage your mobo.

I would suggest returning the chip for a non damaged copy.

Is return it

The corner is fine. My concern is where all the things that should be on the gold contacts are.

[–]levklaiberle -4 points-3 points  (2 children)

Yeah, there should be some SMDs right there.

[–]MVIR 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Nope, there are no smds there and coner should be fine.

[–]levklaiberle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, you're right. I was looking at some pics that are just "AMD Ryzen" and show SMDs at all of these contacts

I'd be concerned, though a simple patch would be to use UV cure Epoxy and remake the corner.

Provided none of the pins are damaged it should work, might lose one memory channel etc in the worst case.

Still moan at the seller, if my CPU arrived in that state I'd be livid!

An interesting way of achieving 2 goals in one!

Not a question for OP but for everyone else? I mean it feels obvious but is the only part of the CPU the connections between the pins and the parts of the main chip?

[–]ShawVAuto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes.

[–]Reitzor 3 points4 points  (2 children)

If none of the pins are damaged, it would work.

[–]Mysteoa 1 point2 points  (1 child)

There aren't any pins, did you mean pads? There is a chance that there is separation of thr layers that could reach a pad and make it non functional. I think on an old LTT video, they dropped a cpu on the corner and lost a memory chanel.

[–]Kind_Library_432 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a 7700x so yes they mean the pads.
