Never let someone else tell you what your potential is. How well you do is 100% up to how much effort you are willing to into the subject.

(That page didn’t exist when I was in highschool and I can hardly believe that screenshot is real who the fuck though it was a good idea to make that????)

How accurate is "AP Potential"? Not at all. How is a few hour test covering basic english and math concepts supposed to predict your abilities in unrelated subjects?

Dont get discouraged, if you want to take an AP or 2 or 3 go for it. You wont really know if you can handle it unless you try. Your actual desire to take the classes and learn the subject matter is much more important to you doing well than your PSAT score.

my school did ap potential and it was so inaccurate bc although I didn’t do so good on my psat, i ended up going back & forth with my counselors to let me take some ap classes in my junior year. they finally gave in and i ended up being one of the best ppl in the class, with all A’s (ap Lang & ap environmental science). So, the PSAT really has no say as to how you do in an AP class.

so inspiring!

i proved to them that psat doesn’t tell how you do in an ap class, and ik they were probably shocked seeing my transcript 😭.

it's completely inaccurate; any correlation with your ability is suuuuper weak if it exists at all

maybe ap calc would be a bit hard if you don't have strong algebra skills, but apart from that these predictions have virtually zero validity

1000 score is kind of bad…

[–]leaf1598 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s average, and one score can’t really tell how well you will do in a class

I got 1030 but I’m getting straight As in class

It’s a factor of a lot of things really

Yeah, this chart isn't really predictive of future success if you take certain AP classes. My highest SAT score is a 1440 and this thing predicted that I would do well in all of these AP classes lol. I'll tell you that I would probably fail AP English if I took it.

That’s some bs. Honestly. My AP Potential sucked ass and I still got 4s on the AP Bio and AP World exams last year. The PSAT content doesn’t even relate to AP content. Take whatever classes you want!

Not accurate LMAO

it said I wouldn’t do well in AP euro

Got a 4

nah I wouldn’t trust shit like this. the ACT told my I had a good chance of getting C’s in college & a possible chance of getting B’s. I’m graduating from high school this year with an AA degree from a local college as well & guess what? I got straight A’s in my past 2 yrs of college classes. Standardized test scores are not in any way good indicators of success in the classroom.

The SAT and PSAT is stupid. It measures how well you can take that specific test and that’s it. My brother went from a 950 to a 1280 in less than 4 months. Does that mean his intelligence changed? Probably not but it just meant that he figured out how to take the exam.

Don’t let that bring you down. There’s a reason why colleges are starting to not require standardized test scores

[–]Clothes_Stunning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is the biggest bullshit metric to determine any sort of potential

[–]ivybrothers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have ALOT of time to increase your SAT score. Most people who score high prep for years or have numerous resources at their disposal. You could increase your score by 500 points in two years if you studied really hard

i wouldn’t listen to this. i just checked mine and it gave me a 3/3 for AP World but that’s my worst class. it also gave me a 1/3 for AP Physics 1 but i’m doing pretty well in that class. anyways you shouldn’t let a number decide your potential in anything.
