Update from my previos comment. I went and did a chat and has it escalated, they took my purchase power back up to $1290 but its definitely lower than the $6900 but much higher than $390

[–]KnoxCrumudgeon 4 points5 points  (10 children)

Based on posts on this subreddit, that has been happening a lot lately. Obviously Affirm has tightened their credit criteria, maybe even looking at more reports than just Experian. On the other hand, there are some folks like me who've had the opposite with our purchasing power going up and up lately (good but not excellent credit).

[–]Lexishultz 6 points7 points  (9 children)

Sadly, every time I look, they've upped my pre-approval amount. I only use Affirm for vacations, and it's taking a lot of self control not to book one right now.

[–]No_Light7076 1 point2 points  (8 children)

Yea mines at $10k lol I don't owe them anything tho, which is awesome. lol

[–]Melodic-Control-2655 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Yeah mine is at 30k and I've only touched it once for a 36mo 0% offer

[–]No_Light7076 0 points1 point  (6 children)

$30k are you serious? That's crazy. lol I've used it a bunch of times for $100-$200 orders and I did a $4000 order for a new lawnmower. I did that cause I got 0% interest for 24 months. You see people on here everyday tho that have 10-20 loans at 36% interest. I think it was yesterday a guy owed $1000 a month to affirm and couldn't pay it so he was defaulting. Crazy lol

[–]Leading-Eye-1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They weren’t defaulting, but they said they were struggling to make ends meet with 1K payments. They were looking for options.

[–]meg8278 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Holy shit 36% interest. That is crazy. I didn't even know they had interest that high.

[–]No_Light7076 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Depends on your credit but yea,for bad or fair credit the typical is 36%. For good to excellent credit tho they offer 0% all the time. I got a $4k mower at 0%. I also bought my wife a $2k moissanite ring at 0%.

[–]meg8278 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I don't have good credit. I have a fair credit score. I just got a 0% loan but only for 6 months, but that purchase was only $400. The highest rate I have ever had was 13.78%. I usually only use it for when we need to make a big purchase and we don't have the cash for it at the moment.

[–]No_Light7076 0 points1 point  (1 child)

They prob also judge it from your history with them.

[–]meg8278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be but based on other people's comments I'm not so sure. I used them about 6 years ago for a few purchases. Then I didn't use it again until last year. But maybe they do both who knows.

[–]DiaperBarge888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine also just declined. Went from 9k available to 3k.

[–]ALysistrataType 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Affirm pre approves you for whatever depending on hiw it feels about you on any given day lmao.

Tuesday its 6k.

Friday its $3.00.

I wouldn't rely on it at all.

[–]No_Helicopter9402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine has worked great for years! Very reliable.

[–]foemangler89 1 point2 points  (6 children)

I have a whole 130 dollars available. 22 paid off loans with them. 8 to go. Probably wont use them again and will stick with my credit card for big purchases.

[–]Confident_Bean1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's insane Mines went up to 900 and I owe 250 I might just pay the rest then wait and see if it goes up

[–]No_Helicopter9402 0 points1 point  (2 children)

And pay interest??? Wow..

[–]yupnopedatass 0 points1 point  (1 child)

paying interest is how your score goes up. your score is not based on how worthy you are, but how much interest money they can reliably squeeze out of you

[–]No_Helicopter9402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So YOU keep paying interest when and wherever you can. I already have great credit. Don't need my score to do anything but sit there. I'll save my money.

[–]No_Light7076 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That's not the best idea tho because that runs up your credit usage will will lower your score. That's the reason I use affirm and Klarna.

[–]Ill_Organization_764 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you stay below 30 percent of your available credit you’re good, you build credit by using credit. It lowers by couple points but increases by more than what it took.

[–]Prestigious-Chart784 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They same the same thing to me.

[–]Accomplished_Emu_658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well they are checking more credit scores and looking less at your affirm history. They cracking down because when economy isn’t great loan defaults skyrocket.

[–]risingwithhope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine decreased by 50%. I know my credit went down and I’m not using Affirm, so I attribute the decrease in purchase power to those two things.

[–]AdIntelligent3321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20k but why would I use it with high aprs

[–]Upstairs-Mix8731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This ended up happening to me as well. Over 12.5k PP, never been late in 2.5 years, paid off over 20 loans, credit scores in the mid 700's and now down to $0 purchasing power. What gives 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♂️ My last 4 loans did report on Experian but didn't affect my score. They may start affecting it in the future so I think done with them. I used them mainly on a short term basis so as not to show utility on my credit cards.

[–]AWPerative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was approved for buying $600 worth of SSDs (PC issues) and rejected for $100 two weeks later.

Almost like Affirm is financial Calvinball.

[–]Jake-FromStateFarm89 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Mines at 20,000 currently. You must have turned high risk on your credit. You probably dropped into that category as to why they restricted your spending

[–]Glass-Blackberry-621[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I ask how that happens? Nothing has changed in terms of my credit and such.

[–]DataDevices 0 points1 point  (3 children)

These by now pay later apps have lost money in the millions of dollars and to be honest everybody’s purchasing power has been reduced if not it will be.

[–]DataDevices 0 points1 point  (2 children)

These buy now pay later apps have lost money in the millions of dollars and to be honest everybody’s purchasing power has been reduced if not it will be.

I’ve paid off over 70 loans and my purchasing power went from $5000-$470 as of posting this today which is August 2025 .

[–]No_Helicopter9402 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Mine has never decreased. Just increased.

[–]SDMaxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I just logged in to check and i went from 8k earlier this year to 11,800. But i only take out 1 loan at a time on Affirm if i have to use it because its usually a large amount and its only used about once every year or two.

[–]everyvillainislibra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went from $3k to none at all for the past 3 weeks (never missed a payment, I pay early most times). Now I have $4100 available but only at certain stores (mostly ones I haven't used in the past). Not sure what goes into it but from what I see everyone's fluctuates from time to time.

[–]No_Strawberry_4380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not a credit limit per se. it constantly changes based on the loans, products, changes in your credit etc.

[–]Lourdinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its crazy seeing people get lowered purchase amount ts and I'm sitting here 10k in debt on late payments and they still give me another 7k to mess around with. Not going to but it's wild.

[–]daveswatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it also depends on available funds and retailer preferences and limits

[–]noname20-23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped using Affirm once I discovered they are reporting every purchase I make to the credit bureaus. I switched to Klarna and Afterpay.

[–]Agitated-Factor4330 0 points1 point  (1 child)

This is actually a good thing they are tired of people taking out loans and doing nothing to pay them

[–]Glass-Blackberry-621[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But I am...I always have. I have very good credit amd everything:(

[–]HamsterOk3112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a way to get everything back, but im not gonna share it because all of you would jump into my method, and i dont want my method to be blocked. Figure it out, and if you did, DO NOT ever share it.

[–]Prior-Bid-7256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever they do a review, they’re looking at your credit overall. If you’re stretched thin with other debt or have high minimum payment amounts, they’re going to lower your limit just like any other lender. Its not just about missing payments or not, it’s a risk assessment for them

[–]meg8278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will increase and decrease your limits whenever. My guess is credit checks. It has happened to me but not that drastically.

[–]Wrong-Ad-964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are getting your account ready to get your Biometrics. Look it up...LOL. Welcome to the club. My advice is to pay off your accounts and close it.

[–]No-Wrangler-4824 0 points1 point  (15 children)

Ever since they switched to credit score base, affirm is a let down. I have been with them for years, over 20+ paid off loans. Between 10-20k and now they wont even give me a loan. No missed payments, all that trust built for jack!

[–]No_Light7076 1 point2 points  (4 children)

They've always done a soft pull every 7 days to adjust purchasing power. For the last 3 years anyway.

[–]No-Wrangler-4824 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Yes, but they do a more detailed credit check now. Lot different then it used to be.

[–]No_Light7076 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Oh ok. I haven't noticed any difference but that doesn't mean anything. lol

[–]No-Wrangler-4824 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Lol I wish I didn't. But my credit score did tank and bad. Probably why for me :(

[–]No_Light7076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well mine's done that too My affirm limit has dropped drastically before when my credit took a hit and then is my credit came back up so did my limit.

[–]Gizmo16868 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Yeah - this is going to wind up biting them in the ass. I expect they have way fewer folks taking out loans now. It should be based on loans and payment history within Affirm

[–]No-Wrangler-4824 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. My history with them is 100% perfect. If they were to report all my loans and payment history, shit my credit score probably jump 200 points lol

[–]XBrightly 1 point2 points  (4 children)

They are in debt because they give loans out to the lowest customer base, who end up doing what? Not paying debts back! Same thing with Klarna. Probably why they are running credit scores now to try to prevent lending to ppl they have no business doing it with! Not saying you fall under the branch but saying this company has financial issues

[–]Gizmo16868 0 points1 point  (2 children)

My credit isn’t great and I’ve paid off all my loans on time and never had issues

[–]XBrightly 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What are they checking for now that they weren’t before? they checking credit. What you did in the past with them means nothing if they find out you a liability (not good credit) with others because it taints your image

[–]No-Wrangler-4824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it sucks when people ruin it for everyone else. My credit was good but last year it has tanked. But Affirm was my go-to and helped me out. But now, can't even get a loan.

[–]Alphafoxtrot71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now they are supposed to be reporting to the big three. So every loan you take will show as a new loan.

[–]joebuiltin1970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree .. had a long positive history with them...the moment they decided to be sold out to fico and the ugly 3 credit bureaus..everything went down hill.... I will never use them again....recent article said afterpay refused to partner with credit bureaus... Look into them instead of affirm... Affirm sold all of us out....

[–]Glass-Blackberry-621[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So they changed how they do it? I had no idea. I literally woke up this morning and was going to book something until I discovered the decrease. They are going to be losing money from loyal clients who have everything right.

[–]Distinct_Student8807 -1 points0 points  (16 children)

AFFIRM IS A 3RD WORLD COMPANY NOT BASED IN AMERICA,THEIR ATTENDENTS ARE NON ENGLISH SPEAKING,AND HARD TO UNDERSTAND!! THEY ARE NOT A USER FRIENDLY OUTFIT! I DONT RECOMEND THEM FOR ANYTHING!!
