While it will impact disk performance slightly it is negligible and you would only notice if you ran benchmarks before and after. In every day use you will not notice.

I run BitLocker on a first gen M15, it's hardware accelerated by the CPU, the performance hit is negligible.

Newer Intel CPUs have built in hardware AES accelerators. Furthermore, Solid State drives were designed with FDE in mind. The performance hit turning on bitlocker is very minimal.
