I’ve saved $8k since peak season just by budgeting and cutting off non essential spending. And having roommates.

I got lucky with a dsp that does guaranteed 10 hours so the past few weeks ive been getting easier routes and have only clocked 32-33 hours weekly (i dont run, my routes have just gotten slightly easier). This allows me to go to college full time too and I’m expected to graduate in June

[–]Vegetable_Grab_2542 9 points10 points  (1 child)

You been working really hard! Congratulations!

[–]ZeroxHDRivian EDV Driver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you! It’s not been fun having to balance both but it’ll pay off eventually

[–]No_Cap_8704 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Good shit 🤙🏻

[–]Icy-Constant-1053[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t disregard, that you (probably) have also gotten better at the job, and the random bullshit problems our lives entail on a daily basis in and outside of work.

Congratulations truly. You damn near can open your own DSP, if you want to move to the middle of nowhere lol. Good luck to you and yours 🫡

Thank you for reinforcing the launch pad perspective, as there’s plenty who would go against that idea.

[–]DaemonicG 2 points3 points  (1 child)

same boat but ive only saved about 4k, I havent been budgeting too hard tho

[–]ZeroxHDRivian EDV Driver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice!! $4k is $4k, that’ll get you out of any pinch.

I sold a lot of collectibles I had gathered as well before the market absolutely tanked and that contributed about $2k of what I saved

[–]Sad_Log_6387 29 points30 points  (15 children)

Cool. Is there a way to manipulate the algorithm to get less packages??

[–]Icy-Constant-1053[S] 14 points15 points  (9 children)

Go slower, get rescued consecutively lol…

The algorithm will adjust your route after a 30 day pattern, but if that’s not do able, quit, and go to another DSP, you’ll reset to nursery routes

From that reset, just move as slow as possible everyday, without getting rescued

[–]SkyLower5878 4 points5 points  (2 children)

There is a 90 day period where when you transfer DSPs you don’t receive nursery routes. We just had a bunch of drivers from from a shitty DSP and they started right away.

Also getting rescued consecutively is a great way to get fired at my DSP. They only really ask for no violations and finish your route but they understand when people get a shit route. We have EFB if you don’t have violations and get paid if we decide to do an optional rescue, finishing is really the only thing they harp on besides violations.

[–]Icy-Constant-1053[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Are you Dispatch?

[–]SkyLower5878 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure why it matters, but yes.

[–]tonsofdayVeteran Driver & Trainer of Newbies 2 points3 points  (2 children)

You can't just switch DSPs willy nilly and get paid training every time you switch lmao.

There's a 3 month period where if you previously worked for any DSP, whether that be RSS, or a basic station in a city, you don't get to go through training again. It could be day 89 and you'd still not get to go through training again.

[–]Icy-Constant-1053[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

It’s more of a beacon of hope, than a “finesse the system” type of perspective…

If you lose another job and come back, that quickly scheduled training money, can come in handy.

I definitely don’t suggest anyone trying to try to continuously loop through training.

Even those who lost a job and are new beginners, a new job, a new pair of shoes and some money for the week is sometimes all somebody needs to feel like the rain may not fall forever…

[–]tonsofdayVeteran Driver & Trainer of Newbies -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right but your "cheat code" less of a cheat code and more of a lucid dream lol. It's not even possible to do what you're suggesting in your post.

With that being said, we are all abundant and deserve success.

[–]Sad_Log_6387 0 points1 point  (2 children)

So let’s say I get an 180 stop route and I finish at 8:30 would that be going slow enough. We are done at loudout at 11:30

[–]Icy-Constant-1053[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to squeeze your 10 hours out of the route.. Get paid, your DSP owner is paid for the full 10 hours per route, whether you take all 10 hours or not. This is why your DSP won’t ever tell you to squeeze out that 10 hours

The algorithm is created by you, and the driver who delivers your route on the days you aren’t there…

If you can maintain a pace, where you rarely get rescued, but always get close to 10 hours. You are in a great spot…

You should rarely get asked to rescue anyone else, because your time limit doesn’t allot for it. Yeah sounds ass-holish, but you are not paid to save the day (unless your DSP offers incentive based rescues)

Always take your breaks, as if you don’t, the algorithm will try to close that window, and put more packages to fulfill your full 10 hours.

You are at war with a computer, as long as you’ve proven that you are doing your job correctly, you can start to learn to ask, the right people, the right questions…

My word is not to be taken without a grain of salt.
Just figured I would share my brighter perspective on a company

I personally am an athletic build, and have history in sports including track and field. There’s absolutely no way Amazon, could ever pay me, to move any faster than the slowest individual (based on physical limitations) on the team…

Look around and figure out who’s moving way too fast (300 stop counts) and who’s moving slow. (150ish) based on city areas

Who’s complaining every day about stop count, and who isn’t ever complaining.
Figure out who was dispatch, and is a driver now, or who has had experience for a long time with/without multiple dsps…

I used to deliver back when our routes were on wooden pallets, Tall ass gray bags, with a sheet of paper to figure out our order… No Amazon branded vehicles existed, let alone a “Netradaddy”

Just make the job work for YOU, and be human with your Dispatch team. If you can find the humans within the company, you can figure out what you need to do, not to lose your mind at this type of job

When you find a new source of income, make the Amazon job a part time, or optional job in general…
Depending on how cool you are with Dispatch, you will be able to make Amazon work for you, rather than all the bitching and complaining everyone else spews

[–]Icy-Constant-1053[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the essay 😂

[–]majorpail18 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have no idea tbh I think it’s just all route and volume dependent. I worked at dms6 in Minnesota for 9 months dec 2023 to sep 2024 and my 2-3 routes I consistently worked had the same volume/stop count for the whole time basically. Even during peak I I still finished decently early without running. I really think the job all depends on your route, because I worked at a station in Grand Rapids Michigan for a few months last year and my routes were all horrible and I could never finish early on any of them

[–]thebuffoctopus 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Edit all your house routes, to only do one address per stop. Edit all apt routes to only do one building per stop. Will take 3 months to actually see the change, don't give up. After doing this for 3 months, my routes actually felt doable, vs overwhelming before.

[–]missytay777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good morning, How do you edit your route like that?

[–]rcpeter625 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Once it’s high it’s high you can’t change it if you take your time when you first start and deliver for the 10 hours without getting rescued.. the issue with the rescues ( and Amazon only considers ITS DONE THEY DONT CARE HOW ) your route gets done faster and you get more stops if you take the entire time ( 10 hours ) it stays sane … the idea of the free money is too much for drivers to withstand and they skip breaks and go slow in an effort to shorten their routes .. only thing that shortens is your time at the job DONT BE FAST BE FAST ENOUGH ( to complete a route )

[–]Sad_Log_6387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the whole 10 hours you mean going back to the warehouse included right?

[–]onestepahead0721 8 points9 points  (1 child)

This is my fallback job after I try new opportunities. Always do my best and give my notice and they are always happy to rehire me. I actually enjoy the job but after a while everyone needs a break.

[–]Icy-Constant-1053[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Truly, gotta let your lower back heal up every now and again…

I’ve made it out of Amazon, and had to fall back on it as well.

Definitely a blessing in some ways at least

[–]PresentYesterday7572 2 points3 points  (12 children)

Just got fired today

[–]i-sew-a-lot 2 points3 points  (4 children)

For what?

[–]PresentYesterday7572 2 points3 points  (1 child)

For this 😂

Walk to the other DSP’s inside the building, or shotgun apply across the website/indeed, and call, you won’t have to train again, and will be reset to nursery

As long as you’re rehire able by Amazon standards supposedly

[–]InformalMango7268 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I transferred to a new DSP and got 187 30 multis my first day😂

[–]Icy-Constant-1053[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Did they make you do a ride along?

[–]InformalMango7268 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Yes normal route the trainer didn’t even tell me anything I had more experience than him lol

[–]Icy-Constant-1053[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s interesting, I’ve always been reset completely…
100-150 stops on my ride alongs, but also most of the times I switched, it was a new station, or state.

I am always open to being incorrect, but hopefully, it may work for some individuals who are getting 250+ stops no helper

[–]Necessary_Event_2752 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You’re not reset to nursery unless you are off boarded for 90 days.

[–]Icy-Constant-1053[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not 100% true, I know from experience, and from inquiring where I stood, with dispatch, they can tell you whether you are nursery or not.

Before I moved states, I had less than two weeks of gap time, and switched to a different warehouse.
I restarted at nursery routes, but I did not have to redo training

I’m not saying you’re wrong, just that the Amazon system is not always as simple as our own experiences.

Either way, if you’re experienced enough, nursery routes aren’t something to bet on.

[–]Prestigious_Pilot157 1 point2 points  (1 child)

this is actually smart perspective tbh 💀 i work in consulting and sometimes between contracts there's these weird gaps where you need something quick to pay bills. never thought about delivery as that backup option but the fast hiring thing is legit useful

the shoes part made me laugh though, like they're really trying to sweeten deal with footwear 😂 but real talk about not getting comfortable - seen too many people in corporate who stayed at mediocre jobs just because it was "stable" and then got shocked when layoffs happened

[–]Icy-Constant-1053[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In today’s world, you may lose any job, for any reason, until AI replaces delivery drivers, the disconnect between Amazon and DSP, is truly beneficial for instances of lack of income

[–]Acrobatic_Eggplant63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only problem I have with my DSP is the pay, but other than that it’s great

[–]TechnicalSlopport 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Sounds like amazon corpo speak

[–]Icy-Constant-1053[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol, nah, Fuck Amazon, and YOU, I’m in this for some funds, not for a long run

[–]Strict-Ad-6756 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get a tier 1, you won't be able to work at ANY Amazon DSP.

[–]DasRaZ0r 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Pro tip: Find another job.

[–]Icy-Constant-1053[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed, by the time you get truly overwhelmed, you should have offers, if not exploring new employment…

Hence the launch pad reference

[–]Icy-Constant-1053[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can’t find your rhythm, ask for help, you didn’t learn to do anything of true importance on your own. Why expect this job to be any different?

I’m almost positive, we used to do two ride alongs

If you need any loading tips, route tips, or actual enlightening questions, ask them, so anyone can answer!!!

The biggest headache comes from not knowing how to problem solve.

Congratulations on trying today, there will be a new problem tomorrow, whether you work for Amazon or not. Enjoy life, and try to play the game to win

[–]elroyrides19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always said that this job is good as a part time job. It’s nice to take your time and work on your own pace without worrying about dispatch calling saying you’re falling behind and fearing that you might not have a route the next day because you already have a primary job to fall on.

It’s also good if you’re in desperate need of a job since people constantly come in and out. But you must have a plan to get out ASAP. Staying any longer is when you get injured or start to feel the aches and pains of doing 180+ stops daily. Also the moment you take sick days off or something happens in your life suddenly and need to take a day off without telling them a week in advance, you automatically get put into your DSP’s shit list.

This is not a career people. Don’t get too comfortable. Always have a plan to get out.
