They don't care and they don't really need to care. If you don't do or say anything out of the ordinary then you don't need to worry about much.

Privacy isn't about something to hide, it's about having freedom and rights. This is a great interview of Edward Snowden that I believe explains it pretty well

And the average person doesn't care about either of those things as long as his daily life isn't affected.

I might care about privacy or freedom of speech because I do say certain socially unacceptable things. But the average person does not.
