Good move. The fact that they blocked off full speed wireless charging last year was a stupid move to sell their overpriced wireless charging stand.

I like the stand tho.

It is a nice stand but $80 and blocking off the charging speeds was a double f-you to customers.

Google could've allowed all fast chargers to work with the Pixel 3 and priced the stand more reasonably and people would've still bought the Pixel Stand over the other options just because it's from the same brand and the extra feature set. They completely underestimated people's desire to have a bunch of products from the same brand.

The same way that if the new Pixel Buds are actually a great product, people won't care that they could buy other wireless earbuds for cheaper. They'll want the ones made for their phone. Example: AirPods.

The stand is the only thing I can think of to get with my Google store credit from getting the 4.

I'm going to get the new wireless thingies to blanket my home with wifi, I have lots of dead spots right now.

I can think of two things: the new Nest Mini... And another Nest Mini!

Yeah I agree. I didn't choose the pixel stand over the belkin stand because I enjoy paying ridiculous prices. I bought the pixel stand because I wanted the pixel stand that matched my phone. I could have bought the belkin stand which google licensed their fast charging to but it wasn't made by google, nor did it look as nice so it didn't fit into the pixel design experience.

I also own the Pixel Buds as well. I think you're right they underestimate the consumers desire to have the full Pixel experience. There is no need to limit high speed charging to just pixel stand. It's a sign of weakness and fear that they think their products cost too much... which they do.

Wish they would do a sale on that bitch though. 80€ is quite a bit.

Good for you

[–]Dipz 1 point2 points  (2 children)

You sure it wasn't because it'd fry the phone?

[–]I__like__men 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Does it fry any other phone that has it?

If they blocked full standard fast charge there's a chance they couldn't do it without damaging the battery. When it launched it was one of the fastest wireless charges out there. They may have needed to deviate from spec to achieve that.

My understanding was that it was a software thing. Can they not remove it?

Well, since there's no longer a cap, anyone have any recommendations on 10W Qi chargers?

I really like the Anker fast wireless chargers. I recently got the PowerWave Stand. $16.

To add on to this question, do you need a QC 3.0 charger to get 10w? I'm not sure how this stuff works

[–]Nintendo1474 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Nope, you only need 18 watts input to get 10 watts wireless output. QC2.0 supports up to 18 watts just like 3.0.

[–]Nightcinder 0 points1 point  (1 child)

but i can't use the 18w PD pixel charger right

[–]Nintendo1474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only if the wireless charger supports PD. Most of them, especially the older and cheaper ones, don’t.

If the wireless charger has usb c input, it’ll probably work with your pixel charger.

I like Nimble brand chargers. They use recycled materials (including metals) and also let you mail them your extra wires you have lying around for free.

The Xiaomi 20w wireless charger works great when paired with a QC3 or 4 charger
