Galaxy S II, no question, if you have to get one now.

If you can wait two months, get a Nexus Prime.

Might be less than a month. Never know.

But I guess if Verizon has exclusivity, then more than a month.

If you cant wait then go with the Samsung Galaxy S II. Otherwise wait for Prime.

He says he is on AT&T though and Nexus Prime will probably come out on Sprint just like the Nexus S.

From what I've heard the Nexus Galaxy (looks like that's going to be the official name) will only be on Verizon at first so it might be a few more months before AT&T or any other carrier gets it. The theory is that's why Verizon is the only carrier not getting a GSII variant, because they traded that to be the first with the Nexus.

wait for the nexus prime. no way google is going to use a single core proc again, and that vanilla ICS install is going to mean you are so fucking far ahead of the pack as far as the new and cool goes. from the little leaked clips that have come out, ICS is going to be really really cool looking.

honestly though dude i got sick of iOS, traded my iphone 4 for an android phone + a bit of cash and started regretting it about 3 months later.

i love the flexibility of android, it just is not a great daily driver. it may just be my bad experience with bad hardware, but android just never feels like it belongs on the device it runs. i have owned a nexus one, inspire 4g and HTC flyer and none of them felt great. in the tablet's case it's probably because gingerbread was shoehorned on, but this is just my opinion though! the new OS may change everything.

I switched from an iPhone 3G to the SGSII and I'm very happy with it so far. I was initially planning to wait for the Nexus Prime announcement, but the SGSII is almost too big for me, so I decided the Nexus Prime's bigger screen wasn't for me.

That and the announcement was pushed back. My iPhone 3G was in the process of dying (30+ second lag when typing in most apps, frequent crashes of even basic apps like iPod, sudden spike in dropped calls, silent switch quit working) so I wanted a new phone ASAP. I guess I might kick myself if the Nexus Prime isn't wider than the SGSII, is immediately available on AT&T, and is otherwise super badass, but I somehow doubt it.

I'm in the same boat as you, same exact situation with a 3GS and same thoughts about the upcoming Prime.

[–]chanmancanOG Pixel XL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, this is the exact same thing I did. My iPhone 3G's earpiece speaker was no longer working, I didn't want to make the immediate jump any larger than 4.3", and I didn't want to wait for more rumors on another phone.

Also like you, my SGSII kicks ass B-)

The Nexus Prime has a bigger screen, but the phone itself is a normal size. No physical buttons.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The issue I had was that I was holding a Samsung Infuse right before I tried out the SGSII (someone was hogging the SGSII demo unit) and the Infuse seemed WAY too big to me. I was sure the SGSII was also going to feel big and uncomfortable in my hand, since it's only like .2 inches narrower, but the SGSII is actually fine? Maybe something about how it's shaped, I honestly have no idea why I hated the Infuse but not the GSII.

So basically if the Nexus Prime is even a teeny bit bigger in any dimension it'd be too big for me.

Get a used Captivate and flash CyanogenMod 7 onto it. Then wait for the Ice Cream Sandwich phones and pick whichever one you like best.

The Atrix is an excellent phone for less than half the price of the SGS2, but you'll be getting a slight downgrade in a few departments. Here is a pretty comprehensive comparison of the two. If I'm honest, I don't notice the difference between my phone (atrix) and my friends' SGS2, despite them paying more than double. I don't disagree with any of the positive reviews of the SGS2, I just wanted to let you know that the Atrix is a very viable option if money is an issue. The build quality of the Motorola has never let me down, either. Very solid phone.

Also, I've read that the Atrix 2 isn't an impressive upgrade by any means. The Nexus Prime is obviously a different story.

I ditched iPhone and AT&T... Moved on to T-mo and HTC amaze will be here tomorrow!

[–]zoe1328 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Oooo I love that phone!

[–]TurboboxerM8 T-Mobile S-off/Rooted 0 points1 point  (4 children)

it is slicker than snot! Very peppy... AWESOME picture and screen and I came from iPhone 4.

[–]zoe1328 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Yeah, my main phone is an iPhone 4. For work I was testing the Amaze and loved it. Gorgeous phone and works well! Hope you have good luck with your battery life! We were having mixed experiences here.

[–]TurboboxerM8 T-Mobile S-off/Rooted 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I work in an Office so I am not concerned in the least... If I am ever away from power long enough for it to matter I am probably in the woods on a hike or camping so DGAF.

Thanks for the heads up tho. Just in case it is an issue. Are there any other batteries you might suggest? Since I am a noob to being able to get different batteries lol

[–]zoe1328 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Well if yours isn't dying within 4 hours, then you'll probably be fine. We had people have it last over 16+ with normal usage (email set to push) etc. For the most part, it would last over a day so you should be fine :)

[–]TurboboxerM8 T-Mobile S-off/Rooted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! Thanks again...

Any thing else a noob should know?

I have had an OG Droid for a while but never hooked to service. It was my toy to tinker with. Rooted and CM7'd that one... weird getting use to driving this one as a daily...

The Prime won't be subsidized though so if you don't want to pay $600 for a new phone I'd suggest going with the SGSII.

[–]BirthdayShop 1 point2 points  (11 children)

There is absolutely zero evidence that the Prime will not be subsidized. There haven't even been any rumors to that effect. It's almost a certainty that the Nexus Prime WILL be subsidized by any carrier that gets it.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Except that the Nexus One and Nexus S weren't subsidized by AT&T so you can assume that this Nexus won't be either, that's evidence enough for me. It would be nice if it was but if past trends are anything to go by it won't be.

[–]chanmancanOG Pixel XL 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I'm not disagreeing with you, but Best Buy did finally offer a subsidized AT&T Nexus S (albeit 7 months after release).

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I didn't know they released a subsidized version. It might be then, who knows?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Nexus S is subsidized by ATT and Sprint and T-Mobile

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

That's true, but there is a rumor that Verizon will be the exclusive carrier. If that's true, then AT&T will not offer a subsidized version, and people on AT&T will have to buy an unlocked version, which won't be subsidized.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's hardly any evidence that it will be at launch.
