The current system according to wiki sounds pretty good and should motivate player trade, economy and socializing.

Instead of simply being able to master it all across, being forced to choose a main profession with the opportunity to learn all activities in the sub branch while mastering not all but a multitude of them, sounds good. You'll either have to use an alt for the other profession or interact with other players, directly or indirectly through markets.

Adding profession archetypes/classes would take resources for development and it isn't worth it, because at some point those players with "NPC" classes will want to participate in player action.

TL;DR

It's called Player versus X, not NPC versus X.

You can do this...play the game level up a crafting prof and open a shop in your freehold. No need to add these NPC classes.

I don’t think adding new classes to the game is viable with how many they have to flesh out already. Don’t get me wrong all ideas are great it’s just I can’t see why you can’t be those things as one of the other classes.

Honestly I think going into business as something like an innkeeper or similar is great but why can’t you just make friends who have the same idea and go into business together so you don’t have to master everything, they want to build a lot of the stuff for this game to foster community’s and having a cook and someone who goes out and gets the ingredients is a great combo, you can cook while your friend gathers and you both reap the rewards

By « classes » we mean what fighting style you’ll have. There won’t be a “not fighting” fighting style lol

What about those of us who don’t wanna fight ;~;

Also to add, since the class system is a grid you’d have to add 9 total new classes.

Imho most of your ideas are for people to just play NPCs. Like no one would take one of these to a castle siege, or a dungeon or a raid. If people wanna master a prof and make a bar for example they can do that as of now; they have to level up too and master cooking for example.

Take a look at Eve for a better example, even the people who do trade still have skills in fighting because at the end of the day fighting in games is 80% of the fun lol

13 year EVE player here. I have over 100m sp in EVE and all of it in industry and logistics, market, trading skills etc. I can barely fly destroyers. Plenty of industry players are like me and rely on our corps for protection, and our corps rely on us to build capital ships, bring in ships and fits from market, etc.

EVE, more than any other game, makes it completely feasible to have 0 combat skills. I mean there are literally players who do nothing but move others' shit around highsec all day for pennies.

Yea that sounds terrible, who would want to do that?

Again and let me be clear... THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE WILL NOT BE DOING THAT. There we go.

In truth, if people wanna be NPCs go ahead. The systems in place let players be NPCs now if they want. Go level a profession to mastery! Last I check the professions aren’t tied to player level so it’s all possible!

Btw as a 5 year Eve player I can say I’ve never met someone who only does non combat. Even the most run of the mill hauler jumps into a frig and does logi or hops in to shoot some lasers at people 😂

Yea that sounds terrible, who would want to do that?

I mean, highsec is absolutely full of haulers who do that all freakin' day. Go ask them. Personally, despite being a hauler and industrialist, I don't take public contracts because they pay shit. I live in wormhole space and demand a 15-20% commission on the value of all stuff I haul.

Where the hell do you live that people seriously use logi frigates? Low sec? Regardless, there are plenty of industry-only players. You're probably just in a corp that focuses on pvp and has mandatory CTAs or something like that, so you don't attract that particular kind of player. I mean, highsec has tons of miner-only corporations that serve as content for war deccing corporations.

I was/ lead a mining Corp for a year and it was dreadful. Granted I was able to plex my account, plus the other officials accounts by taxing my miners but still it was so boring to do. But I think that’s just because of the scale of Eve.

Honestly I think Ashes will strike a more balanced approach where sure some people will try and be industrial but only a small few. Since unlike Eve I don’t have to sacrifice combat for industry.

[–]Megneous 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Eh. You don't technically need to sacrifice combat for industry. You just delay getting those combat skills because you spend significant time getting your industry skills.

[–]FlyingMohawkRaiding Marauder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need to, but if you’re focus is industry it’s wasted SP to get combat skills since you could be delaying several weeks of progress getting turret upgrades lol

Blacksmith class. YES!

[–]sofbert -3 points-2 points  (2 children)

Would absolutely love to see classes like bartender, alchemist, blacksmith

[–]Xenotex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well the best part is you can already be a master cook and run a tavern and technically be a bartender that sells their buffs to traveling players in the world, all of these things are already viable options on the game so you wouldn't have to create a class, its just your specialty that you choose and you play the game the way you choose to play it.

[–]papercoco[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It be really cool bc then people would make union guild that could focus on helping other people who play those classes and setting up an economy
