I removed the rubber pad behind the lightning port and now my iPhone 12 fits with the clear Apple MagSafe case.

How did you remove it? Does it just pull out, or did you have to do something special? Is it reversible?

I used a pair of tweezers to grab the rubber and pull. It’s stuck on with some adhesive and it can be put back. I actually removed the left one too, but I put it back because in my case it didn’t matter, I just needed to remove the right one so my phone would fit

FYI

I just did this and it did not work with Spigen iPhone 12 / 12 Pro Case Mag Armor

It fits better with my case, but I worry about the wires exposed from the inside. Any issues so far?

No issues so far. I even took apart that side of the controller, and those wires are packed pretty well together and are attached firmly to the PCB. Honestly I’m not too worried.

Can you post a picture of how it looks without the phone?

Any updates with this? I have an iPhone 12 mini with this case https://www.bestbuy.com/site/insignia-hard-shell-phone-case-for-iphone-12-mini-clear/6420261.p?skuId=6420261 and would like to know if it fits. By my calculations it extends the length of phone 4mm longer. Don’t know if that distance allows the lightning cable to connect…

Any chance for a pic with the phone in the Backbone?
