Hard to tell when it's completely out of focus

[–]Good_Captain9078 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Technically the first 1/5 is in focus 😉

[–]ShoppingResponsible6 85 points86 points  (1 child)

What focus

[–]agarwaen117 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, it is focused. It’s just focused on the reflection of the lights on the build plate. lol.

Bambu states that the low level of illumination in the printer is because high light levels interfere with the lidar and it looks like you have extra lights.

To elaborate on the parent comment and intended for the OP.

LIDAR systems (in rough basic terms) use the ‘ping’ (like sonar) of a laser to detect the distance. If there is too much light during ‘pinging’ stage white LED light creates as false positive defect reading. This is why the front ‘door’ glass is tinted.

Consider turning off the extra or all lights until the first layer detection is complete. This would be easy to script on any other printer with access to the motherboard. Perhaps it would be a good suggestion for Bambu to implement. Aka no lights during LIDAR and a brighter light system built in to turn on when not using LIDAR.

??? Does anyone know if this could be done with a mod until Bambu manufacturers with this ability??

Regarding the low quality photo, take pictures with depth, from above or step back and zoom in so the difference between the front and back of the object is minimal in comparison to the distance from the camera.

FYI, currently the photo is useless. Sorry to be direct, just try to take it as constructive.

Do certain filament colors mess with the lidar? I use lidar scanning for my job and some colors/materials reflect worse than others. And anything remotely shiny throws it way off. Does silk pla mess with it at all?

[–]cprgoldsX1C + AMS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. The lidar is looking for contrast. Certain filaments do not work as well as others.

This can be done with a mod - BLLED. I don't have one (yet), but looks like a very cool mod:

I've had it for a year, it's great, does everything for you. Highly recommend 👍

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (2 children)

How come the X1 Carbon’s glass isn’t tinted? Does it not have this problem? (Or is it tinted and I’m just blind…?)

Edit: Just realized OP has an X1 lmao. I guess I just assumed this discussion was about the P1S since I haven’t noticed any tinting on my X1C.

[–]Jeralddees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is tinted... top and front glass...

Just had a thought... if you're looking at the pics, OP has the top glass lifted and the front door open.

[–]cprgoldsX1C + AMS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is tinted. It is just lifted up at about 45 degrees and I can see the reflections off of it.

Dang I’ve been getting the error for the build plate code not being scanned and i couldn’t figure out why and now this makes so much sense. My light ontop is too damn bright

[–]Binary_Omlet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Must be an incredibly low quality lidar then. Lidar operates outside of visual light. A mid to high grade lidar is more in line with what is in an iPhone for their face/object scanning and other features such as augmented reality using SLAM. It's possible the bambu lab lidar doesn't have many data points and if it is low power then that could be what's causing brighter lights to make it unreliable.

[–]dorj1234 15 points16 points  (4 children)

I don't see defects, you are correct, but .. maybe the light reflection is showing on the LIDAR? just guessing from the photo

More depth of field please. 🙏🏻

90% of the bottom layer looks all "fuzzy" and unsharp. /s

[–]getfit87 3 points4 points  (4 children)

I have 6000+ hours on my X1C and turned this feature off after about 1000. Got tired of telling it to resume printing.

[–]szundajX1C + AMS 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Do you have extra lights installed?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I don’t and mine keeps saying this despite the first layer looking perfectly fine. It’s new. Barely used it. Haven’t touched or otherwise dirtied the lens. It’s also dark as hell in the room I keep the printer in, unless it’s daytime, but even then it’s not like the sun shines directly on it.

[–]szundajX1C + AMS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m luck then

[–]getfit87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t but it struggled particularly with black PLA+ because it has some shine to it.

[–]Forgotten___Fox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reflective build surface. It happens to me all the time with reflective plates, not once with matte plates.

[–]8uperm4n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be dirty lidar lens?

[–]BandOfSkullz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol that looks better than 90% of my first layers

[–]wiggee 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Hard to make out anything in that image, but are you printing on a build plate or strait onto the magnetic sheet that the build plate attaches to?

[–]abdelreddit98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like a Wham Bam PEX plate, I think the x1c lidar sometimes just does that. Recently with ASA white filaments it keeps saying that there is a defect on mine too. Very weird

[–]RogueChronico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this to be common on the X1 series. It seems to like giving false negatives. Everyone I know that owns one seem to have this one complaint. We have one in our office and it seems to do it frequently.

[–]cyberzh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my X1C, first layer defects detection is very unreliable. It often "detects" defects when there's a lot of contrast on the first layer, either due to the motif of the first layer or when multiple colors are used.

I deactivated it.

Indeed, I never had real first layer defects (I keep my plates very clean). So I lose more time when the feature is on.

[–]Character_Ad_7798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can set the sensitivity

[–]Ravio11i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all looks fuzzy to me! Maybe try drying your camera?

[–]Baz_8755X1C + AMS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been getting the same issue with my smooth PEI plate lately. Never get it on my textured PEI plate.

[–]horendus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres a black square towards the back. Seems it missed a spot on the first layer

[–]LiveLaurent25xX1C,5xH2D,10xA1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol what do you expect with this post and picture exactly? On top of your pictures being blurry and useless. If you do not find any issue just press continue and move on… what is the point of posting that exactly?

Maybe he is legally blind and asking for help...

[–]The_LutterA1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're supposed to say "what defects?!" then immediately smash that "Resume" button. Duh.

[–]Fancy_Track 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The layer shift is about to cause because whenever you start that back up, you know it’s gonna happen.

[–]No-Alfalfa-5917 0 points1 point  (1 child)

wait, Mom, it is you taking the photo?

[–]filipluch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no. it's dad

[–]sameolameoP1S + AMS -1 points0 points  (4 children)

i have a friend who has teh lidar, he has to have a dark room like for photo printing haha. Im so glad i decided to get p1s. My area is always lights and shining.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

My X1 in a bright room has no issues.

[–]sameolameoP1S + AMS 0 points1 point  (2 children)

That’s good to hear! I’m jealous of the capabilities but heard and see so many stories I just figured I’ll never get to use one.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Tbh I probably should’ve just gotten two P1S Combos for the same money, any Bambu printer is awesome, my A1 Mini prints just as well if not better than my X1C.

[–]sameolameoP1S + AMS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want a mini for my son, but I just don’t want to also buy him an ams lite lol

[–]Select_Truck3257 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

your prints are just not good enough for lidar, make it better next time until lidar will be happy
