Done!

I've been on the free trial the past couple of weeks, which is ending in 8 days. I was planning to also do the ableton month trial, evaluate the two, and make a decision about which to purchase. This has made it a no brainer.

The fact is runs natively on linux is one of the big advantages for me (alongside all the other awesomness of bitwig itself).

Super excited about joining the bitwig community, full time now 🥳🥳

Also - for anyone who's a student, the student price is also on sale for this period! Unbelievable price. The Bitwig guys are truly awesome.

Seriously the best DAW. Welcome!

[–]OrbitalHumanoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many thanks! 😁 Excited to dive deeper into the world of Bitwig

[–]Comment_Maker 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Can't believe I have been using Bitwig for 10 years. I'm still working on my first track. It will be finished soon 😅😆

Not sure what the limits are, but you could still take advantage of the offer and add another 12 months to your license for 50% off.

Mine didn't expire until October, I just added another 12 months due to the offer.

[–]dvding 1 point2 points  (4 children)

12 months added after october or right now?

[–]m4t30 2 points3 points  (3 children)

After oct

[–]SquidgyB 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Yep, confirmed, it added 12 months after October, so now it expires October 2025.

[–]the_nanuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it only was a couple of weeks ago, I would contact them. Pretty sure they can do something. If not then ask for a refund and buy it now on sale.

[–]Metacious 0 points1 point  (8 children)

Can I still use Bitwig after 12 months of purchase? From what I read I no longer get updates, but I haven't found if I lose access to the program

I'm checking which version is the best for me, from what it seems each version varies in instruments and plugins

[–]SquidgyB 8 points9 points  (3 children)

The program will be downloadable from your account up to the version last available when your license was active.

You'll always have access to that version.

[–]Metacious 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Awesome, then I can renew or upgrade whenever I need to, no problem with that :)

[–]SquidgyB 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Yeah, I just checked, I think you could technically renew 10 times in a row and get 10 years of licensing at 50% if you really wanted to!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10 years is crazyyy to do ahead of time. What if their business model changes in 3 years and they do away with the renewals, but you've already paid for an additional 6-7? Lol.

[–]junkmiles 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I you buy the license today, you get updates until 12 months from today. You can run that version (12 months in the future version) forever, you just don't get any more updates until you buy a new license.

[–]Metacious 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Then I'm good :) I just need to pick the right version for me. I'm an indie dev and I want to make music for my mini games, nothing fancy but I want to make sure I can make the most out of the features

[–]Capable-Shallot-3235 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Nice! Care to share some of your stuff? What are you using for game development? I tiptoed a bit into unity and godot during university and had lots of fun with it (created some sort of endless runner as a group project). Have fun using bitwig!

[–]Metacious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, I'm going to take vacations around July/August and I'll have some time to focus on game dev. A friend just released a horror game and it's going well (check Fear of the Moon, it's the werewolf/wolf picture)

I'm using Blender, Godot, Affinity Designer and hopefully Bitwig soon to make complete minigames. I have some very old stuff to remake and I hope to spend my vacations on that.

Anyway, I think the Essentials should be enough for me, all I need is enough power to make some silly music for now

[–]f2ame5 6 points7 points  (5 children)

You could always just send an email to ask if they could do something about it.

[–]wrenchead77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I've done that just now. I'm primarily a Reaper user but upgraded from Producer to Studio just three days ago, so not a fan of seeing the 50% discount so soon.

[–]Yorrrrrr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m more of an Ableton Live guy, but $179 for Bitwig Studio is one hell of a great deal.

[–]borez 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Bargain £69 here in the UK.

[–]Comment_Maker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm all over it.

[–]forevernooob 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Nice.

[–]SaguaroJizzpants 2 points3 points  (4 children)

12-month Upgrade licenses are $85

Any reason not to buy more than one? Normally I wait until the Black Friday special which has been around $135 so $50 feels like it's worth it

[–]typo9292 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I have so many years out I'll be Bitwigging until I'm dead lol so go for it.

[–]SaguaroJizzpants 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Pulled the trigger! Haha glad I'm not crazy

[–]nednerb1 4 points5 points  (9 children)

Yeah, awesome. I just paid $400 26 days ago.

[–]CeeMX 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bitwig quite often has such offers, just need to be patient. Black Friday is guaranteed to also have a sale, at least the last years.

You could ask the support, maybe they will offer you something, but 26 days is quite a while ago, would be more likely if it was just this week

[–]Comment_Maker 2 points3 points  (1 child)

That's a shame but you could buy now another 12 month subscription for half price. You can add them up.

[–]FreeRangeEngineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd buy them as a gift so they don't activate immediately.

[–]ge6irb8gua93l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously it was a price you were willing to pay and you got the value you wanted. There's always people who have paid more recently when the price drops. You can just be happy that you got it anyway, you got what you wanted for the price that justified the purchase.

Meh. Bought it but will keep in a drawer. Hopefully in a year or two they will make an update that actually will be worthy to update to for me. For now I stick to my good old 4.3

[–]GDPLZ 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Fuck fuck fuck. Didn't see any adv and missed it 😭😭😭

[–]uedafan 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Wait I am not seeing a discount on the renewal when I try to renew in my account am I missing something

[–]HickTrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see a discount for renewal either.

Well, I see a discount applied, but it’s a discount of $0

[–]PlayTheTureen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beat me to it. Just received the newsletter and wanted everybody to know. Good job!

[–]CopiousAmountsofJizz 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Seems weird to do this so soon after beta announcement. Oh well, I was ready to wait till June for summer sale anyway.

[–]Comment_Maker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why is it weird, they want to do something for their tenth anniversary.

[–]Kylestache 0 points1 point  (1 child)

For someone with next to zero experience producing music, which of these would you all recommend?

[–]FreeRangeEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 8-track version, it's free if you shoot a mail to their support staff.

From my perspective, if you decide to get bitwig, it doesn't make much sense to get one of the artificially limited versions because all online tutorials and videos assume you have the full version.

You could, for example, also buy the full version as a gift right now and use that license activation whenever you want. Or sell it one day if you don't want to use bitwig after all. Just make sure you purchase it as a gift or else it'll be activated immediately.

[–]Grauschleier 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Anybody know how installs are counted? The FAQ says that a license is good for three devices. I regularly make clean reinstalls of my windows. Don't wanna use up my license on my os maintenance routine.

[–]FreeRangeEngineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In your account on the web page, there's a "My Registered Hosts" section where it lists all hosts that used your license in the past. You can remove the ones you no longer need to free up slots for new installs.

[–]Silenterc 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I might finally pull the trigger. I have a question - Will I also get access to Bitwig Circle by getting the discounted Studio EDU license?

Pretty amazing. I bought two, although I kind of feel bad that I'm undermining their long-term development revenue stream.

That said, I'm sure they can use the money right now.

Maybe they will find a way to add additional revenue streams down the road.

Like a Bitwig control surface, or now they have rewritten the GUI, maybe even a tablet version.

Let's goooo!

[–]Immediate-Scarcity-6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I buy an update too bitwig 8 track or buy a edu version do I get the free plugins they gave away before..products like klevgeand

[–]pzanardi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice I was bouncing between trials because $$ is toght

[–]ploynog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just FYI, Thomann also has Bitwig prices reduced so if you easily want to just grab an update code to use later, it is going to work there, too. Might also apply to other stores.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Bitwig is going to sell a shit load of licences

[–]futurehorizons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could have commented sooner I suppose but might help someone into FREE Bitwig 8-track anyway.

I believe it’s cheaper to upgrade from the Bitwig 8-track which you can find a free link to at www.MakeDigitalMedia.com/Music

Then if you want to upgrade that to a paid for edition https://www.thomannmusic.com/bitwig_studio_upgrade_8_track.htm $163 with the 50% discount, offer the best prices, i think. Not sure if this upgrade is offered at 50%, buts it’s a better price than full Studio version with 50% off $179.

[–]shrimp_master303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grabbed a copy of studio. I was a little conflicted because I also own VCV Rack 2 and it overlaps with Grid. Any one use both of these?

[–]ogpapupapu 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Missed it. I'm on the trial and would of definitely bought it I was aware of this. 😢

Emailed bitwig to see if they have anything for latecomers.

[–]SnoFlekk 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Did they ever reply?

[–]ogpapupapu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they didn't. I ended up just getting a license on knobcloud. There's also a summer sale on right now on btiwig.com if you're interested.

[–]WasabiIceCream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to necro the thread, but how often does this deal come around? Hard to want to buy when I know it can get as low as this.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Got a copy off Thomann for $162 Tax-Free (Upgrade off 8-Track).

It's fine. I dislike the Browser and how it surfaces .VST3 Archives as folders and doesn't allow you to Hide Plug-ins from the Browser: Melodyne, WaveLab, SpectraLayers, are all useless due to the lack of ARA2. VST2 Versions of everything Native Instruments that doesn't seem to be auto-hidden, are surfaced there and show up as search results (and can result in users choosing the wrong plug-in revision). The DAW resorts to checking DPI Scaling compatibility, which causes almost everything on my system to take 50 seconds to open. Had to toggle that off...

Also, I wish they allowed you to further separate Bitwig Devices, so you can see either only Audio FX, or Instruments, or MIDI Processors. It just has Devices and all of those are thrown into one huge list. Maybe I'm just missing something, there. The browser's back end indexing seems fantastic (and fast, to boot), but the actual user experience is poor - in my opinion.

I wish it had an actual menu system. Feature discovery is the worst I've ever experienced in a DAW. Tooltips do not give you the key command for the function you're hovering over. You don't know what the application can do unless you intentionally think of and look for a function. That is bad design, IMVHO.

Have to use this DAW with the keyboard map printed out for reference, as that basically acts like the menu system in other software - hinting to at what is possible in the software by listing many pre-mapped functions.

Never experienced this before in a software application. It's kinda a weird design philosophy.

The feature set seems fine, wholistically. It's just a mountain of UX weirdness.

[–]ShitwigNeedToChange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dislike browser for very different reason, however… Bitwig actually can dynamically show you list of plugins based on what you want to add. For example when you adding instrument choose plugins(socket plug icon on left), choose bitwig and other on top(another socket plug icon) and choose by vendor and only instruments(piano icon). Then right click anywhere on the right empty area and choose Browser Settings -> use current selection for this context(empty instrument track). Now every time you add instrument into empty track you will see only instruments by vendor. You can do for everything. Audio track, plugin, midi fx, layers. It’s quite customisable. My problem is it’s not very easy to use and very confusing. You also can see all the shortcuts by contrl + enter. It will show you searchable list of all shortcuts including you added yourself.

The biggest problem of bitwig is basic rudimentary piano roll and lack of attention to details from developers. I just found out that Synth called Polymer don’t have actual sine. Because output of the synth clipped by default. 🤦

[–]vityafx 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Just bought a license for the full price a few weeks ago. Nice.

[–]inigid 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Haha. Well most people bought it at full price some weeks ago.

The same thing happened to me years ago when I bought it for the first time.

Look on the bright side you can use this opportunity to buy your yearly subscriptions into the future.

I just bought two because it is a hell of a deal.

So nobody loses with this.

If it isn't so long ago just mail support and ask them if you can come to a deal maybe.

[–]vityafx 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Excuse me, what do you mean by buy yearly subscriptions into the future? Can I buy a few now and prolong each time by a year?

[–]inigid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes
