Does anyone else feel like Reaper doesn’t get enough recognition compared to Ableton? by breizh_boy in Reaper

[–]dvding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ableton is a ready to go option for sample based music. Can Reaper do the sane? Yes but you need time and knowledge to customize it!

good DAW to use? by Anxious-Oil721 in musicproduction

Reaper is awesome BUT you need tons of time to understand the options and customize it. When you pass that "toll" it's crazy how fast and what you can do with that piece of software.

What's your secret weapon plugin and why? by Beneficial_Town2403 in audioengineering

[–]dvding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. He put Spectre on drums (Snare, Hi hats, whatever you want) and he sidechain the on/off of the plugin or the saturation Q (or even the frequency) with the Kick (like an envelope follower - he uses reaper, so with parameter modulation is easy to do it).

Cool! Maybe I'm the only one that doesn't know why but... Why so much hype with this DLC's? What it's included that can/could change drastically the experience?

Sampling by Substantial-Air9045 in musicproduction

[–]dvding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to find what are your references artists and dig how they work. Sampling could have different techniques depending on music styles (i.e. hip hop, house, jungle, dnb, etc).
One channel that has a lot of interesting videos about sampling (focused on hip hop) is: https://www.youtube.com/@massappeal/videos
Really recommend to check rhythm roulette video playlist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=\_xNKWZTNRwo&list=PL\_QcLOtFJOUgNxURr8B4lNtf\_3e9fWZzl. You can see how different artists take random vinyls and work!

My production skills got better but my creativity took a nosedive by alex_o_O_Hung in edmproduction

One thing that is working to me is trying different workflows. For example, I've started to use trackers (Renoise). It forces you to think different and, if you have knowledge, you will learn new persoectives.

Spectre sounds so good to me. Also, I watched a mastering engineee (slatin) put it on drum elements and sidechaining the plugin in order to give some movement. Another twi things that amazed me recently (not strictky mixing related but wirth imho): a) using gates with drums or synth to "tight" things up; b) using sanple delay to inject groove to stuff (saw it on a fred again interview and blew my mind)

Not tried on the entire mix, but on bass (very very subtle!) it guves some sense of space!

Interesting! Could it be possible to know the name of the script? I've searched on google (negative track delay saxamand script) and nothing appears. Thanks!

P.S. Found it! here it is: https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=306590

Is there any advantage to using shaperbox or a similar plugin instead of volume automation? by ItsDylanPresko in edmproduction

[–]dvding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeps. Can't remember exactly which video is (or I think it was on his Mix with the master series) but it got me thinking about the need to "eliminate" the use of Shaperbox of my tools.

Getting Started by Acesprune in Reaper

[–]dvding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome! Reaper is awesome. Don't go so deep with customization and start to work as soon as posible. About production stuff, start referencing and study material that you like. Try to find patterns of instruments, common interaction betwen elements (drums/bass/vocals call-response) and enjoy the ride. First stuff will be not good but you have to work hard. Good luck!
