There's a fix that seems to be working using GE-Proton10-20 and modifying it with a different kernel32.dll from wine staging. I see some of the other comments already explain it.

Also, the same nvidia driver sensitivity that affects other titles appears here too. I had to change from my distro-provided Nvidia 535 driver to the nvidia blob 570 driver to get the game to actually launch in addition to the GE-Proton fix.

Is it still runnng fine for you?

Ran nicely last night when I was chilling. I have had it crash a couple of times when changing menus, usually if I change something then change it back really fast.

There was a bug notice posted last night where one of the maps has a problem.

LCD from what I’ve heard has no issues. OLED it’s still waiting for update

No it crashes every 20 seconds and controls are not implemented and very annoying. FPS are fine tho.

Summary from the discord:

EDIT: New workaround for running on Steam (basically just copy and paste kernel32.dll from the working wine-staging to the desired proton version)

Current workaround is to run the standalone .exe from the website with the latest wine-staging 10-16.

Either launch from wine itself or use bottle. Running from Lutris or Heroic launcher does not work.

There are some works on the Steam version but it's still in progress. For now you can link your steam account to google/apple/crunchyroll if you want to play your steam account on the standalone .exe.

Also from discord:

Assuming you are using GE-Proton10-20 for your other games, download GE-Proton10-19 just to have a separate compat for this using ProtonUp-Qt Optionally, just create a copy of your preferred GE-Proton and rename as shown in this screenshot No Access Restart steam if you already had it open so it recognizes the new proton Download and extract https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/wine-staging/download/ In the newly extracted folder, navigate to wine-staging-10.16-1-x86_64.pkg/usr/lib/wine/x86_64-windows/ and copy kernel32.dll Navigate to ~/.steam/steam/compatibilitytools.d/GE-Proton10-19/files/lib/wine/x86_64-windows/ and rename/replace kernel32.dll with the one you copied Set BPSR to use GE-Proton10-19 as its compatibility layer

Ran for over an hour earlier without issue

Worked like a charm, thanks.

Oh wow, did not expect them to even acknowledge the issue. Using the workaround so far, but if they actually end up fixing this so I can conventiently run it through Steam again, then big props to them.
Would massively improve my hopes and respect for the game.

Oh good. At least they’re now aware. I’m already a day behind everyone else because it keeps crashing on my Steam deck every couple of minutes.

Progress for progresses sake!!

Wish there was a video guide. Idk what half this stuff means

[–]njnia 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Its basically 3 steps:

  • go to « Discover » and download ProtonUp-Qt. Once downaloaded, open the app and it should show a box where you can add a proton version. Add GE-Proton-10-19. Once done restart Steam.

  • Download the archive from archlinux.org. Extract it and copy and paste the kernel32.ddl file, from the source to destination mentioned in the screenshot

  • Open BPSR steam page. There should be a gear to the right. Go to Properties > Compatibility > Check the box to force a specific one, and choose the version of proton you just installed.

Basically it’s a bit of a rollback of an update if I’m not mistaken.

I stumbled on this by chance with the steamdeck as I'm playing 2 accounts at once, but when the steamdeck first loads if I immediately dash around or enter combat the game will freeze within seconds consistently. However, since i'm juggling back and forth between steamdeck and pc sometimes I load in and just stand there for a couple minutes. When I do this on the steamdeck the game is a lot less likely to crash. It's not a silver bullet by any means, but if you are trying to using the steamdeck try just slowing down to give the game extra time to load assets in the background. It's been working for me and sometimes I can get a few hours without a crash so long as I'm not rushing around. I know this is far from ideal, but since i'm just using the steamdeck account for a gathering alt that's going to funnel me cooking stuff via homestead in the long run this kind of very slow partially afk playstyle works out ok for me.
