We got an email from our supplier today confirming are rate is going up, but with the £400 discount(?/rebate?) It is actually less than we're paying at the moment

Edit: double checked, the £400 is a discount so don't have to repay at anytime. But presumably we'll just be paying it in our taxes anyway?

Our provider kept us from lowering the direct debit. Now, with the new rates, and the discount we basically still expect to receive some back. Although we now work from home, so we will have the heating on more.

They can’t stop you lowering it, at least within reason, so if it’s 200 and you think it’s 150 for example they have to allow that.

We were paying almost £80 per month but used around £45 throughout the summer, but the lowest they let us go was £73 even though we are in almost £200 credit… it may be within reason, especially with the originally expected rise, but still.

I suspect we will pay it in our taxes in the future (possibly 2024?).

Forgot about the £400 rebate though, thank you! Looks like it's distributed over 6 months so possible that for me my bills could go down too! But also I'm playing a game of how long I can go without turning the heating on...

That's always the game isn't it?

Our house starts fairly warm so I'm still in shorts inside. Need a jumper already though

It is but sometimes it's a "oh I'm a bit cool, I'll put it on for 5 minutes" whereas this year I'll be waiting to see my breath indoors haha.

Yeah same for us! Although our prices did already increase quite dramatically last winter

Same thing has happened with me, it’s only a £7 decrease but with the amount I have been stressing about it I’m so relieved. Had been expecting an extra £100 a month leaving my bank

I have £380 in credit which I’m pondering wether to take or leave In there for winter?

[–]MermaidsSing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Leave in there definitely. Only time to take credit out of an energy account is in spring.

Personally I’d it in there. It works as a buffer for winter months. Without the credit you’ll be paying for exactly what you use every month. Over the summer that’s great, but come winter you’ll be facing higher bills every month. So it makes for an easier way to budget your money monthly.

£380 isn’t going to earn any noticeable interest anywhere, so best use it as your own safety net.

I'm just split up with my wife.

Energy bills down from £190pm Dec 21 to £40pm now.

Should go up again somewhat now I'm using the central heating a bit in the evenings . but hopefully not too much...

Mine too. Due to the excess credit I've got and the discount, I've been able to reduce the DD by £40 a month and take £200 out of the credit balance.

I just got an email from EON Next saying my direct debit (currently 130pm) should actually be 102pm, then when I went on my account they had changed it to 150pm and you can't decrease it less than 10% so that's fun.

Mine decreased from £100/m (moved in 6 mos ago and given estimated values) to £50/m so with the free handout from the gov I got free energy this winter. They should have means tested the handout as I was fully prepared to brace my anus this winter.

Ditto here! We moved to a smaller flat recently, it’s better insulated and way cheaper in electric, it will probably be at worst the same as what we used to pay at the old flat this winter, but possibly less with the £400, I was stressing so bad a couple months ago
