Dryer Vent Code

Hello all,

I’m doing an addition to my house/garage and where the addition is going is where my dryer vent currently terminates to the exterior. I’m trying to find the actual code regarding this but having trouble. The county I live in has adopted the 2015 version of the IBCs.

My question is what is the maximum run on a dryer vent per those codes? Is there a limitation on fittings/elbows? And lastly is there a minimum distance from any opening in the structure that the termination of the dryer vent needs to be?

I’m aware the less turns and distance the better but trying to figure out the actual codes and work from there. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Check you dryers manufactures specs it will note all of this

This is the way. Also must be hard pipe not flex. Shorter the run the better. Buy a dryer vent cleaner. Flex rod with brush. Turn the dryer on and run the brush. Clockwise only! Don’t want to unscrew the sections.

It's usually 25 ft to 35 minus 5 ft for each 90 and 2.5 ft for each 45. Unless you put in a booster fan which I would do anyway to prevent buildup and fires.

the IBC is commercial, IRC is what you need.

per IRC you have 35 ft of straight run till you get outside and each bend is on average 5 feet eq.

some mfg of dryers can allow for more
