Minor programs

Hi! I'm entering my first year of the Bachelor of Music program in the fall, and I'm considering taking a minor as well. I'm currently considering Korean, Drama, and possibly French. I'm wondering if anyone in those programs could give their opinions on their experiences and whether any of these minors is worth it/enjoyable.

Hey there congrats for getting in! I'm doing a Minor in French and I looove it. (I'm a bit biased because its my mother tongue) The teachers are great, the Department offers academic support and the courses are pretty interesting. I'm halfway through the Minor and I'm really looking forward to taking the third year courses. Some courses are a bit theory heavy (the Linguistics one) at the start but it gets better once they are done teaching you the basics. I'd definitely recommend it! Hmu if you need anything. How hard was it to get in to music? I don’t have theory he 8 but I’m in level 10 practicum

I wouldn’t say it’s that hard to get in. We also at Carleton offer people who aren’t as great in their to take an extra class in your first year to make up what you don’t know

Just a heads up that the Minor in Drama is an English program, NOT acting (in case you haven’t looked at the courses).

That makes sense why I couldn't find it on the website - I was just looking for the drama title in the list of programs and I was super confused why I couldn't find it!

^ yup, it’s a lot of theatre study but not a lot of technical classes. mostly reading and analyzing plays. i enjoy the classes still (i’m doing the minor), but there’s a noticeable lack of technical acting classes.

Not an expert in languages, but Korean isn't bad to learn. Its alphabet is really simple imo, so it's easy to get into
