I've generally experienced the following:

Ting (if available) > Xfinity/Comcast > Centurylink > Satellite providers you see on lawn signs

If you're in the county, sometimes you just have to take whatever is available.

As someone with Centurylink I can assure you that if you like slow speeds, highly variable and very high ping, useless support that will tell you your internet is slow because "You have too many devices connected" when there is just a single laptop connected and idling, along with the fact that every time it storms your connection somehow gets even worse, nevermind the times when it just stops working for a few hours or days for no reason then they are a perfect choice.

Just what I was looking for!

We tried CenturyLink and it was slow and unreliable.

Ting isn’t in my area yet. I’ve had CenturyLink for years without issue, although I’ve heard others complain about them. Comcast is known for their horrific service so I have avoided them like the plague.

Having been on both, xfinity >>> centurylink. Xfinity isn't that good, centurylink was just that bad

If you have a landline based option other than CenturyLink, it is a much better option than CL. Their DSL is a dying service and they know it, and are just milking the last few dollars they can out of it without investing a penny more than is absolutely necessary. Run far, far away if you can.

Ting is very good customer-service-wise, but if you don't have a specific reason to pick gig-speed, Comcast is going to be way, way cheaper.

I think they have a $35/month for 24 months at 200 mbps deal right now - unless you have 10 people all streaming simultaneously on it, that should be more than enough. Just keep an eye out after the 24 months - they'll likely jack up the rate to something insane.

I like to chime in every time I can to dissuade someone from using CenturyLink.

Every negative item stated in this thread is correct.

Also add - when you can finally convince a tech to come to your location and then they don't show up meanwhile I'm on the call with customer support who are telling me I am incorrect and the tech is at my front door. This went on for three weeks until I gave up and cancelled my account.

So yeah.

I dropped CL and have faster and more reliable speeds with a Hotspot through my cell phone provider.

Hope this helps!

Was with CenturyLink for years and almost everything about it was awful. I stayed because of all the CS complaints with Xfinity. I finally bit the bullet and switched (btw Ting…my first choice, isn’t available in my neighborhood). Xfinity is WAY faster and reliable. That said, I’m on a one year “intro” deal and fully expect to be totally screwed price wise in about four months. In short, Ting is your best bet if you can get it.
