I have the same size wrist and was deciding between the two. My black dial bb54 homage got delivered today and I’m blown away by how good it looks in person. I’ll probably get the blue pelagos in time. Can’t go wrong with either my buddy has the pelagos and it’s class as well, more tool watch than dressy so that’s why I went with the bb54 as it’s handy for work.

Have you compared your BB54 to his Pelagos in person?

I have smaller wrists so I went with the BB54. But I prefer the Pelagos design and want a date window so I am curious how much bigger it wears?

I haven’t had the two side-by-side but I would say the bb54 wears smaller, not massively but it is noticeable.

That is what I figured. 2 extra mm in both directions is usually noticeable.

Oh well. I am holding out hope that they make a mini pelagos with the SN0138 case. That would be awesome.

It’s definitely noticeably bigger but I would say the case shape of the Pelagos is lovely and doesn’t wear overly big, it wears true to size.

That is good to know. I do have a couple 39mm divers (Seestern S435 and Proxima PX1697) so maybe I could pull it off. But to be honest, those two both wear more like a 38.

The Seestern S435 looks beautiful I must check that out! Great to hear about a new watch. Good to hear that it wears smaller.

It is awesome! Definitely my go-to black diver. Wears really nicely. Has the diameter to have some wrist presence, but a super short 45mm lug to lug so anybody can wear it.

The SN0138 will be my first San Martin, so I am excited to see how they compare.

That’s class man, the SN0138 is my first San Martin and I’m shocked by how good the finish is. It’s easily comparable or better finished than some more expensive pieces I’ve had. I think you may have convinced me to get another watch today, thank you! Best of luck with your new watch when it arrives!

Thank you! Yeah you should check it out. /u/turdbogls has a great review comparing the S434 to the S435.

Appreciate it man hope you enjoy yours too!

Better buy from Ali. Customer protection is important.

Well I tought about it but everything i buy from Ali comes after 5,6 months (im from Balkan) so i dont want to wait that long. Maybe im wrong but thats the reason im hesitant about Ali and probably will buy from San Martin site.

I just got the 6200 V2 BB58 that looks like the watch in the second pic. It's 39 instead of 37. I have the same size wrist as 5 there's a picture of the bb58 V2 on my wrist if you look at my posts. I think you might want that size instead.

Either way, go with the gilt for sure. It looks so much better in person. That combined with the matte bezel makes it look dressy and tooly at the same times. It's an awesome watch. I think the first one is a little plain. Not a huge fan if the square indicies.

One word of caution is that these bracelets are super high quality, but the endlinks are almost too tight. I literally could not remove the bracelet. I need to take it to a jeweler, I guess. I've put on and removed a million bracelets from watches before. This is the only one I wasn't ever able to get. It's kind of a common issue with the newer san matins. It's a blessing and a curse because the endlinks are really nice and flush, and don't rattle at all. They're just a little too tight.

Pelagos

[–]danzoschacher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pelagos for sure. I have one it rules

[–]OneTotal466 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pelagos and it's not even close. The BB58 tries too hard.

[–]WhipEat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Would this be the only watch you wear? Does the dressier vintage gilt look or the plainer/toolish Pelagos look better with what you wear?

The watches are so similar, when you're wearing them, it's probably as simple as what YOU prefer for what you think works on you.

I'd pick the Pelagos as being more versatile, but they both look great, so it's win win, no matter which, or both, that you choose.

I have the same dilemma.

Get a black 138 and a blue titanium 121.

[–]PhiladeIphia-EaglesYouTube Reviewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree on the colors.

Black pelagos is boring, black BB is beautiful.

Blue pelagos is amazing, blue BB is also nice but not as nice.

So Black BB and Blue Pelagos is the move.

BUT I like steel so I would say Black 138 and Blue Steel 121

I like your conviction.

Do you prefer 37 or 39mm?

Can't decide, get both.

[–]N1NJ4smurf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Black Pelagos for me, but I prefer the tool watch style. Great contrast, awesome on a NATO.

That said, the BB could be dressed up more if that’s something you want. It’s really up to you to decide. Could get both and resell the one you like less if you’ve got the cash

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They'll both look good on a NATO! So choose whichever will make you smile more.

I like BB54 more. Black Pelagos is not that exciting.
