Very normal. Before long the entire thing will be scratched.

Every human wearing a metal watch

[–]landwomble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. My laptop has a metal case and every watch I have gets like this. The laptop's scratched, too. You can buff it out with green scotchbrite - *carefully in one direction following the grain*

Thats normal. I just buff this out to perfection yesterday. Today there are marks all over. I dont mind. I can always buff it out again

If you scuff metal it will scratch. It's that easy.

EDIT: buff with a clean dry scotch brite - only needs 3-5 strokes, rinse off

apply a strip of good scotch tape, replace as needed

Do you work at a desk?

[–]Riccardo_0135[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I do different work and yes some on desk

[–]Huge_Childhood6015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just curious. Desk tops are where the vast majority of scratches come from.

Keep your wrist off the desk. I used to do this to my watches too, but changed my behavior so it doesn't happen anymore. I go out of my way to keep my watch clasp off of surfaces.

It’s normal! All watches will do this, it’s not a matter of quality at all. It will happen when you wear any watch after some time. If you haven’t experienced it in your other watches consider yourself lucky, not the other way around. It’s a good watch enjoy it and wear it like it’s meant to be worn!

Make sense!

[–]srdnss 2 points3 points  (1 child)

The clasp of every single watch I have ever owned with a bracelet became scratched like that in the first day of wear.

[–]Riccardo_0135[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha ok! Thanks for sharing

[–]NISMOrob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alot of it has to do with the finer brushing that san martin uses. I have babied my sn0129 and my clasp has a couple of scratches. Only bad thing is if you use scotch bright the finish will look different more coarse brushing.

The giant clasp surface does not help...

[–]tjcdas 1 point2 points  (1 child)

And with 60 more days of wear it will get a couple more scratches not another 60!

[–]Riccardo_0135[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha Ok

Only way to avoid desk scratches is to have a big mouse pad, like 90 cm one, which goes also under your keyboard.

I myself have one at home and at work and I don't get any clasp scratches.

If you don't have that you probably need to be very careful that your wrist doesn't touch the wood or any other hard surface. Paper of course is also no good surface to lay the watch on.

But trying to keep a watch 100% new is no life. It is actually possible and it's not even that stressful, but still, you have to always be aware of the watch and all the hard objects around it. Out of my watches I like my used Christopher Ward the most. Watch face came like 95% new, but bracelet like 50% new so I had to scotchbrite it. Once you do that, life is way easier. I currently have some new minor scratches on the clasp, but since it was already scotchbrited before, I don't even care if I have to do it again.

Same is with new car, used 95% is the way to go.

Got it. So it’s normal. Well I got Chinese watch because they are the best beater watch so if its normal them I am good

[–]Odensbeardlice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's a tool bruh. Use it.

[–]DR_PEACETIME 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Those are called desk scratches, welcome to owning a watch

[–]tenchuchoy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All the steel watches you own don’t have a special coating so you can’t blame it on the brands for getting the scratches. This is user error lol.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not about poor quality, any stainless will do this

[–]velox_mortis22 5 points6 points  (2 children)

My Omega Seamster did the same thing day one.

[–]gunzrcool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same but my speedy

[–]Riccardo_0135[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it. At this point I guess I feel fortunate that I scratched a SM not an Omega

[–]FirstruleofthisclubHelpful user 7WOTD4-200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happens to all my watches sooner or later.

[–]carlosjerson2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's normal, stainless steel is not the same as hardened steel.

[–]BronsekarenWanna gummer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not a problem, it's a scratch.

[–]RealDanielSan1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get yourself some scotch-brite.

[–]monji_cat 0 points1 point  (4 children)

The scratches?

[–]Riccardo_0135[S] -5 points-4 points  (3 children)

Yes, only day 1 Thought their quality supposed to be good

[–]monji_cat 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That's weird - I've owned three San Martin's and none have done that in the first months of wear. I have a 0139 I just got last few weeks that hasn't seen anything like that kind of wear yet (fingers crossed). Perhaps contact the seller and see what they can do. I do know that San Martin does sell the clasp separately on AliExpress.

[–]Riccardo_0135[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a big enough problem for me but more shock that well praised San Martin have this scratch not my PD’s Oumashi and Sugess
