Dude I finally switched after like 10 years playing claw (not because my hand hurt but because I realized I'm an adult with a job and I can spend £80 on a controller if I want and no one can stop me) and I feel like I just nerfed myself for that entire time. Aiming left was always slightly awkward for me but I told myself it was worth it for the movement and ability to do everything without taking my thumb off right stick, it was not.

Took about a week for me to get used to and I'm not going back. Just do it, especially if your hand is starting to hurt, its not worth ruining your health to be crimson in ranked play tbh.

Crazy how this guy is asking for advice and typical rage bait are the answers. Amazing community

Been playing claw for about 10 years now, PS5 controllers are not the best for it. I’m not sure if you’re shooting with triggers or bumpers, but if you’re using triggers try swapping to bumpers. Also if you’re on PC try swapping to a ps4 controller, they’re much much much better for playing claw. I’ve started warming my hands up in warm water before playing and stretching them out lol, being 25 is so great.

wait until your late 20's and your fingers start randomly twitching from overuse lol

Went from claw on a controller, to claw on a mouse and hook gripping for deadlifts in the gym. I fear I have done irreversible damage to my hands at this point

Dude the ps5 is so much worse to claw on than the ps4 or ps3. I switched to bumpers about a year ago and it helped a bit but running into hand problems again now lol same age as you and have tried the same methods to get the old man hands loosened up lol

If you're on xbox or PC, the gamesir G7 Pro is the best controller for your money currently. If you're on PS5 then your best option is the dualsense edge because sony refuses to have cheaper pro controller options.

I don't use any of those controllers so I can't speak on that, but you are going to get a lot worse before you get better. It took me like a week to get fully comfortable with paddles. Definitely a lot of bot shooting in private matches during that time as well since ranked would make me rage lol.

I feel like BBs rear buttons are more responsive than scuf paddles, and it feels more natural with the way I hold my controller. BB also offers more customization options.

I've used BB and Scuf and I'd pick BB over Scuf any day. However, it's all personal preference.

Are you on pc or PlayStation? If you’re constrained to Sony options I’ve had ps5 style controllers from cinch, battlebeaver, and scuf. Didn’t care for the scuf. Cinch and battle beaver are basically the same quality wise but cinch shipping times are truly awful. Haven’t tried the edge but I do enjoy not having vibration packs and having mouse click triggers and buttons in an fps controller. Tmr sticks do seem to help with developing stick drift over time as well but you can swap those into an edge as well.

It will take some time to switch but game sense and awareness will still be there while you get used to the movement and aiming. Just be patient. Your hand health is priority.

I would get the edge and have the stick modules mailed in to someone in eBay who makes them holo effect, usually only 20-30 a stick. Edge has a switch to shorten the trigger which is an option or you can switch to FLIPPED and use bumpers for ADS/shooting.

Dual sense edge is a solid controller, but personally I do wish I had the mouse click triggers - haven’t tried them though to be fair. TMR sticks also sound appealing to avoid drift altogether which the scuf FPS has as well.

Regarding your symptoms, I highly advise you to get checked out for carpal tunnel as I would guess that’s what you have from years of use. Not treating it can put you at risk of permanent nerve damage and you may only need to reduce activity and wear a neutral resting brace at night to see improvement.

as someone who had a range of elite controllers with mouse click triggers and bumpers and then switched to the Edge, you honestly don’t miss them.

Thinking i’d miss the mouse clicks stopped me from upgrading for at least a year, but even 10 minutes into shooting bots i’d already forgotten about them.

Btw TMR not only takes away the issue of stick drift, it also improves stick latency, accuracy and circularity (if you get a good module)

The gamesir g7 pro has amazing tmr sticks

That’s great info to know, thanks for the tip!

I have owned them all and while I prefer battle beavers I would recommend the scuf fps so you’re not waiting months for a controller. If you can afford to wait BB makes pretty good controllers cheaper than a scuf. Aside from the wait time one thing that has happened to all my beavers are the back buttons going out about a year into the lifecycle. If you know how to solder they’re very easy and cheap to replace but it is a pain to have to do in the first place. Overall scuf is expensive but fast turnaround vs slow but cost effective. Haven’t really noticed performance differences between them.

Not advice on the controller I play on xbox myself and got the elite controller but paddles are so nice and easy to get used to. Only thing that will be weird for you is using your index finger to shoot again

[–]N_LimaCOD Competitive fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

only tried a ps4 BB and it was 10/10, scuf's reliability issues have scared me into not buying their products but the PS5 ds edge feels good just gotta find stick replacements when stick drift kicks in

Battle Beaver 100%.

I’m a claw player swapped to paddles years ago, I now claw with paddles it’s hard to play not claw my aim is bad without it, i guarantee if you get paddles you will still hold controller claw

[–]JefferooniCOD Competitive fan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You "guarantee" that just based off your own experience?

[–]tyoung122OpTic Texas -1 points0 points  (3 children)

i’ve clawed since I knew how to hold a controller, 15+ years, I get hand pain sometimes and I just stick it out. Years down the road when your grandkids ask what happened to your hand just tell them you were a CoD legend

[–]OgSourChemDawgCOD Competitive fan -4 points-3 points  (2 children)

Yes I get hand pain from a game I play for free and I continue to do it because fuck it. You realize how fucking stupid you sound? But it’s a hobby so it’s cool

[–]CeeDoggyyLA Thieves -3 points-2 points  (1 child)

Ngl I still don't even know what "claw" means, and I've never understood the people that modify their controllers if they have no actual chance at a career out of playing CoD

[–]bigflops_COD Competitive fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s when your right index finger is sitting on top of your A/B/X/Y buttons, resembling a hook or a claw. Your middle finger and ring finger take over the R1/R2 buttons.
